Lil Steamer Families --

Today is such a fitting day to play the song The Final Countdown made famous by popular 80s band Europe. Summer break nears its end and we are making every preparation to have our building ready for the pitter patter of little feet in our hallways.

However, please note that the numerous construction projects will still have some gaps for the high standard I have regarding our campuses. Some hallways may not be waxed, outside areas may not look pristine, and some classrooms may not be fully decorated and prepared to the standard of those teachers.

I ask that you provide grace and understanding next week during Kindergarten Signing Day and Backpack Night. We have had 15 teachers change rooms this summer and 5 of them were not able to get into their rooms until Thursday, August 7.

When I started as principal at Fulton Elementary School in 2019, FES was undergoing a major expansion to relocate our main office to the front of the building. That summer Stacey Dail and I worked out of a makeshift office space in classroom. Our main office wasn't fully completed until close to October. I'm having some of those same anxious vibes trying to prepare everything as best I can.

However, I try to focus on all of the long-term benefits of our projects instead of the short-term concerns at the moment.

As we we finalize our construction efforts, there are so many items to note:

4 new classrooms at FES (two are 2nd grade and two are 3rd grade)
New bathrooms in the east wing for students (including two additional staff restrooms)
New automated sinks and hand dryers in existing restrooms
Expanded parking lot (more than doubling our previous capacity)
Additional classroom at FBP (we are now able to slot 80 three- and four-year olds!)
Installed exterior boulders and bollards for increased security at FES
New swing sets on the playground
Relocation of gaga pit to expanded playground area

Thank you for you continued understanding and patience. We are VERY excited to see our Lil Steamer families next week and step fully back into our beloved role as educators. Thank you for trusting us with those most precious to you and please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

The 2024-2025 school year is almost here! I cannot wait to see all my Lil Steamer friends, hear about their summers, and ask what they're looking forward to in the year ahead. We have several new students starting at FES on August 14, including our kindergarten students and those moving in from other schools. I'm excited to watch our current Lil Steamers welcome these new friends to the building. And speaking of the building, there have been a lot of changes to both Fulton Blended Preschool and our elementary building. I can't wait for everyone to see the great spaces that have been created.

A Note from 1B Ms. Hanson:

Hi 1B Families!,

I want to inform you that at the beginning of the year I will only be there for a short time as I will be going on maternity leave to have a baby girl. While it is unfortunate to miss the beginning of the school year, I will have an excellent maternity substitute. Mrs. LeeAnn Steele is a retired teacher and she has dedicated almost 3 decades to FES. She will be covering my maternity leave and I will return mid October. We both look forward to teaching your child and getting to know them.
