Help Us Honor Our Alums Who Served
Huber Heights City Schools (HHCS) is excited to announce the creation of a Military Service Wall of Honor at Wayne High School! This special tribute will recognize the dedication and sacrifices of Wayne graduates from any branch of service who are currently serving or have served, provided they were not dishonorably discharged.
To make this project successful, we need your help identifying former students who should be included on the wall. We invite alums or their family members to submit details about their military service by visiting tinyurl.com/WHSMilitaryAlumni. All submissions received by March 1, 2025, will be featured on the wall, which will be unveiled in April 2025.
In addition to details about their service, alums can share personal stories and photos, which will also be included in a virtual wall display on our website.
We invite everyone to help us honor our military alums and spread the word about this special tribute. For questions or to learn how you can support this initiative, please contact Jenn Davis at JenniferNDavis@myhhcs.org.

Sending Letters of Hope
Hurricane Helene left a significant impact on Black Mountain, North Carolina, where much of the town was devastated by flooding. In response, Wayne High School engineering and math teacher Ted Kleiser and his wife brought their two animal-assisted therapy dogs to the area to offer emotional support to first responders.
During their visit, Mr. Kleiser connected with police, firefighters, and medical personnel, as well as residents at a children's home and local relief sites. He was struck by the resilience of those who had lost so much, with many expressing appreciation for the support they received.
To further extend this support, Mr. Kleiser and Principal Carey organized a Send a Letter of Hope campaign at Wayne High School. More than 200 students took part, writing notes of encouragement for their peers in the Black Mountain school district. These messages were recently delivered to the North Carolina students, letting them know they are in our students' thoughts and motivating them to stay strong through these challenging times.
We are incredibly proud of our Wayne High School students for their compassion and support for those in need. Your kindness and empathy truly make a difference in the lives of others!

Wayne National Honor Society Induction Ceremony
Wayne High School recently inducted 52 new members into the Wayne National Honor Society (NHS), joining 31 returning members for this academic year. NHS is open to juniors and seniors with a 3.5 GPA or higher. Eligible students are invited to apply and submit three teacher recommendations to be considered for membership.
This largely volunteer-driven organization plays an important role in our school and community by organizing events like The Amazing Race, Wayne Blood Drives, and the Rotary Club holiday shopping event. NHS encourages students to become engaged, well-rounded citizens through service and leadership.

They will return to the CTC in 10th grade for another visit to evaluate whether they want to pursue this educational pathway.

We look forward to seeing even more students at our second-quarter incentive!

Monticello Celebrates Red Ribbon Week with a WE FIRST Assembly
As Monticello celebrated Red Ribbon Week, we were thrilled to welcome Bob Kloos from Cleveland, Ohio, for a proactive bullying prevention assembly called WE FIRST.
Students in kindergarten, first, and second grades discovered the importance of the number three in helping manage their emotions. Third and fourth graders embraced the message that "This is OUR school" and that "If we know better, we should do better." Fifth and sixth graders learned to "watch and move' and how it is always "we," never just "me."
All students joined in singing rounds and received a bracelet featuring "MONTICELLO WE FIRST." It was a delight to see the students singing and participating. Mr. Kloos remarked that Monticello was the best school he had ever visited!

Rushmore Elementary School
Message from the Principal
Even though the weather keeps changing and the leaves are falling with brilliant colors of orange, red, and yellow to decorate our school grounds, the academic process here at Rushmore is constant. October was a busy month filled with fun activities and celebrations!
November is an important time for us all to reflect on the many blessings bestowed upon us. I am grateful to be working alongside a staff who show up to work with our students and to do what is best for the kids. They are positive in their interactions with students and comforting and welcoming when students come into the building and throughout the day, making Rushmore a safe space for students. Students are echoing this positivity because of the optimism being spread through the building with student-to-student interactions, staff-to-staff interactions, and most importantly, staff-to-student interactions. A BIG THANK YOU to the staff and students at Rushmore: I am thankful for you!
And the OSCAR Goes toβ¦
We are thrilled to announce that our school counselor, Jolene Young, and Rushmore Elementary, were honored with the OSCAR at the All Ohio Counselors Conference on October 29. This prestigious award is given to only 12 school counselors across Ohio each year. The Ohio School Counselor Accountability Report (OSCAR) recognizes our counseling program's outstanding achievements and effectiveness.
Unity Day
This year, Rushmore proudly participated in Unity Day, a national event promoting kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to combat bullying. On October 16, students and staff wore orange to send a clear message: no child should face bullying. Students also took the "anti-bullying pledge" and created links with their names, uniting as a community against bullying.
Fire Safety Education
Kasey the Fire Dog recently visited Rushmore, engaging our K-2 students in an informative assembly about fire safety. It was a valuable and enjoyable learning experience!
Literacy Night
We are thankful for the wonderful turnout for our Family Literacy Night at Trunk-or-Treat on October 29! Students enjoyed playing Word Bingo and entering our Raffle. We had fun teaching families how to play literacy games for each grade level. We hope everyone is having fun playing these games and practicing their reading at home.
Kindness Challenge
Continuing our theme of anti-bullying and kindness throughout November, we are excited to launch our Kindness Challenge. Students will be nominated by their homeroom teachers at the end of the month for demonstrating the Warrior Way and performing random acts of kindness. One winner from each homeroom will receive a Build-A-Bear!

Studebaker Preschool
Studebaker Preschool Celebrates a Busy October with Learning and Community Events
October was a busy month for Studebaker Preschool! Our students are focused on early literacy--learning their letters, distinguishing between lowercase and uppercase, and becoming familiar with letter sounds. They are also counting and beginning to identify the differences between quantities, shapes, and sizes. Students are discussing the weather, seasons, and colors, connecting them to the range of hues that fall is currently putting on display.
Our PTO held "Fall Fun with Grandparents," celebrating our students' biggest fans. Everyone enjoyed a sweet treat while completing a craft activity. Students also participated in our annual Halloween parade through the main hall at Studebaker, where they received goodies from Central Office staff.
As we look ahead to November, which focuses on gratitude, it is important to note that we are tremendously thankful for our preschool parents/guardians. Our families are highly involved and know that educating children is a partnership. We thank you for entrusting us to provide a solid foundation for future academic success. We also appreciate that you are regularly present for your children, and we can't say enough about our devoted PTO of tireless parents/guardians who give us phenomenal support.
