Excel Academy Eagle Update
September 27, 2024
UPDATES FROM THE SCHOOL
It's Official! October Count Day is October 1st
The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school on that day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count, so we encourage you to make sure your student comes to school that day.
The “count window” the state observes is from Tuesday, September 24 through Tuesday, October 8, but the most important student count day is Tuesday, October 1st. Help us get an accurate count by having your student participate in learning that day.
If your student will be absent on Tuesday, October 1 due to illness, please call our
attendance line, (303) 467-2295 extension 5, to report the absence. Attendance during the “count
window” will help counteract an absence on Tuesday, October 1.
Thank you for your support of Excel Academy. Every student counts!
Class Shirts
Our amazing PTO purchased shirts for all students. Every grade level has a different color. They are to be worn on Field Trips, Fun Run, Field Day, Spirit Days...
Some teachers sent the home on Friday and some are sending them home next week.
KG-Red, 1st Purple, 2nd Yellow, 3rd Mint Green, 4th Tropical Blue, & 5th Sapphire Blue.
6th Grade and new Middle School students will receive a shirt. Returning MS students received a shirt last year and they can continue to use that shirt.
Order School Pictures!
Today your child is coming home with a flyer with their picture on it. The flyer has the details on how to order your child's picture.
We are using a different company this year, we hope you like the pictures and the ordering process.
Music Class Recorder Unit
The 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be starting a recorder unit next week during their music specials time. I encourage each student to have their own recorder though it is not mandatory. We will be using Baroque fingering Soprano Recorders. Dependable brands include Yamaha, Mullenhauer, and Kung. It doesn't matter what color the recorders is. Most recorders can be purchased for less than $10.00.
Do not purchase a recorder from the dollar or toy store. They are toys and not manufactured to produce the correct pitches. I will have a set of classroom recorders for students' use. The school set of recorders may be used by multiple students. They are disinfected after each use. If you do not want your child to use a cleaned school recorder, please plan on providing your child with their own recorder.
Remember to Complete the Charter Choice Combination Form for Potential Fee Waivers
Did you know that families who meet income eligibility thresholds can have certain school fees and school-day field study costs waived? In addition, Excel Academy receives additional funding based on the number of students who qualify as of October 1st each year as part of the official count process. If you think your family might qualify, please complete the Charter Choice Combination Form. Once complete, please forward the approval letter to Excel Academy's Business Manager, Keri Lee, at Keri.Lee@jeffco.k12.co.us. Find more information here. You can complete the Charter Choice Combination Form here.

Middle School Athletics
A full week of action with no less than 6 different contests this week.
Volleyball
Action started on Monday with the Eagles traveling to ECDS. If you recall from earlier in the year the outcome was not in favor of the Eagles. And though the B-team struggled, the A-team triumphed in a match that Coach Riley referred to as, "the best volleyball the team has played all year!" This is exciting as we head into the playoffs next week. Now is the time to be peaking!
VB on 9/26/24 vs Lincoln was a disappointing pouting for the Eagles. We were completely dominated, both A and B-teams. It was especially disappointing for the A-team who beat the Leopards earlier in the year.
Soccer
Three games on tap this past week starting with ECDS on Monday. The Eagles were too much and secured a 7-1 victory. Jaden Roy, Hagen Heintz and Barrett Anderson all contributed two goals apiece. Eli Quenzer added an additional score. Wednesday's match up with WWA was a thriller as the Eagles scored first off the toe of Barrett Anderson. WWA took the lead late in the first half 2-1 which is where it stayed till literally seconds left on the clock when WWA scored on a miracle shot from an almost impossible angle to make it 3-1. The official who we have had several times throughout the season remarked that it was the best he's seen us play! It was so exciting as the eagles had several shots on goal but couldn't find the back of the net. Game of the year for the Eagles on Wed. 9/25/24 vs WWA. The Eagles came out strong against the best team in the league and scored first on a shot by Jaden Roy, followed by another off the toe of Barrett Anderson. WWA came back and the score was tied tow to tow at the end of the first half. The second half was a bit of a different story as WWA's 6'3" giant got on track and he scored 7 goals in the second half. We added two more scores including a beautiful penalty shot by Barrett and then another score late in the half by Barrett. The Eagles will start the playoffs on 9/30/24 at Lincoln, with finals on 10/1/24 if we win on Monday!
XC
The Eagles ran at Oakhurst Park in the third leg of the league schedule. Noah Kelley was the overall winner of the boy's race with a time of 13:55 followed by William Houston who's strong finish yielded an 2nd overall place in 14:06. Rounding out the top five were Owen Tassano in 16:05, Aiden Villegas in 16:29 and Eli Cho in 16:41. For the girls it was Audrey Payne at 19:01, Cora Anderson 21:03, and Elizabeth Stilling 23:34. The Eagles face their final and toughest challenge of the season on 10/4/24 at Addenbrook Park. Boys run at 3:30 pm followed by the girls at 4:10pm!
See you at the games! Go Eagles!
