End of Term 1
Well whanau, we made it through to the last day of term 1 - it has been an interesting term in so many ways.- and what a term it has been. For what feels like the first time, after two years of cautionary measures, COVID moved amongst us, impacting students, families and staff here. It has been very hard for all of us, dealing with uncertainty, frustration, rescheduling, restrictions, possibly fear as well.. This has not been an easy time for any of us.
Thank you to those who have supported your children by keeping things as normal as possible for them, answering their questions, giving them extra time, space and love. They carry our anxieties, and I have been so impressed at the resilience and joy your children have shown each day at school, as we’ve done the very best we could to keep it a safe, happy, learning-focussed and normal as possible environment for them.
Thank you for your patience as we have had to repeatedly change plans over the last two years to accommodate new guidelines, do without things like inter school sport, camps and other EOTC happenings this year so far and require masks in the school for Year 5 and over. None of us enjoy it, but we are bound to following guidelines for the safety of all.
Thank you for those who have shown kindness to school staff in all of this, along with supermarket workers, health workers and others in public-facing roles. People usually choose to be in health or education out of a genuine desire to help others, and they can feel more vulnerable in a pandemic because they are at the ‘front line’ more than many, interacting with high numbers of people every day. I am so proud of all the staff here - every day, they show their commitment to providing the very best learning opportunities to your children, even while being faced with uncertainty about their own families and personal safety. They are tired, and these holidays are needed.
Enjoy some rest yourselves with your children over the next two and a bit weeks as well. I am so hoping that the peak of COVID will pass soon, and that we can get back to having social and other events for families again. We have missed the face to face so much.
Me te mihi nui mo a koutou manaakitanga - in appreciation of your support. I do hope you are able to have some whanau connect time over Easter, the holiday period and of course ANZAC Day.
We look forward to seeing you Monday 2 May.

Ben was hiding in a bush over behind the grey shed at Inglewood Primary School. In the bush, the sticks on the trees were poking him as he ran along. The ground was muddy and slippery. Ben was sliding along. He fell down and got muddy hands. He got back up and was running again. The drones were as fast as a rocket so Ben had to move his legs as fast as he could. They got their electricity from the sun. He was feeling confident and energetic. Ben finds a big machine with a cannon on the front he fires up the machine, he hops in the cannon and then BOOM!!!!!!!!! He BLASTS himself out of the cannon and over the fence into the nature trai. Ben lands in a pile of wet, soggy, muddy leaves. ‘ YUCK!! ‘ he says. Ben is now wet and muddy from the leaves.‘ Ben sees a big dark green tree monster coming out of the water. The monster has been killing all the plants and native trees like the Kauri tree by cutting them down and putting his rubbish everywhere. The monster does not care about nature and only cares about himself. The monster has no friends because he is a litter tree and if he was not a litter tree he would have more friends. Ben started to yell Help! Help!, out of nowhere Ben could hear thrashing tracks on the rocks coming towards him, he sees a BIG 55V Tank coming to rescue him as it knows when someone is in trouble, it is a very smart machine because scientists made it to be a hero and save people. The tree Monster is feeling scared of the tank and runs away. Ben watches the monster run away and hide, Ben starts to feel sad for the tree monster so he goes to find it and make friends with him and to hopefully teach him not to be a litter monster.
