Principal's Message
Dear CompSci Families,
We have had a great second week here at school. The transportation issues seem to be dwindling and kids are getting into a routine. I do want to thank parents as well for your patience as the start of year can bring confusion!
As a school we focus our goals for kids on our SOAR motto. You can see this on the front cover of your child’s planner. This week I have been sharing quotes with the kids during morning announcements about “showing leadership”. We want kids to see the qualities of leadership in themselves, and this is a concept that we will revisit over the course of the year. Ask your kids about this—remembering its Middle School, so sometimes all you will get is a shrug!
We also sent home a fundraiser packet last week. The purpose of this is to raise additional funds for afterschool activities, so please take a look at it. Any help at all is appreciated. Speaking of after school, athletics have started this week. Information about our clubs will be coming soon. As I said, encourage your child to get involved in the after school programming if you are able. They get a lot out of it and it is a good way to make friends outside of the classroom.
A note from the Health Office: Some of you have received calls from the nurse regarding immunizations. Sixth grade families, those immunizations have to be done before 7th grade. Seventh grade families, they are due now. Eight grade families, you are overdue! Please take care of this. If you have an appointment scheduled please let the nurse know. If you need help, let us know!
Finally, I want to mention school safety. As you know, there was another school shooting this week, in Georgia. Situations like this raise the anxiety for all of us, and I do not take that lightly. We have 4 security guards in the building, and part of their duties is to check exterior doors and walk the outside grounds twice an hour. Additionally, we have over 40 cameras inside and outside the building that are constantly monitored.
Enjoy the weekend,
Jill Wnuk

8A:REBOOT REBELS
Greetings from The Reboot Rebels of 8A!
We have had a great week of team building and protocol practice. Your students have eased gracefully into the rigor of 8th grade, and we are setting our sights on a year of tremendous growth: social, emotional, and academic.
Each student has now received a binder with notebooks and a few writing utensils, as well as a computer, case, and charger. We ask that you help your child develop the organizational systems at home to help them be successful when they arrive.
Find a place near the door for them to keep their binder(with all papers in the correct folders), their CHARGED computer, and writing utensils for everyday use.
We look forward to working with each of you this year to ensure the most positive and productive launch to their high school career.
Please don’t hesitate to be in touch with any questions or concerns you may have!

CREC’s Statement of Diversity and Inclusion
“Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is an intentionally diverse social justice organization whose members work to acknowledge, respect, and empathize with people of all different identifiers, such as race, socioeconomic status, gender identity and expression, education, age, ability, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, language, nationality, and religion. In accordance with CREC’s mission of equity, excellence, and success for all through high-quality educational services, our staff and students commit to participate in and support ongoing equity and inclusion programming through curricular and co-curricular offerings, professional learning, and local and national partnerships. Moreover, CREC staff and students strive to understand and confront the symptoms and causes of systematic oppression—ranging from implicit biases to micro aggressions to discriminatory policies, practices and traditions—that benefit privileged groups. While at CREC, staff and students commit to affirm and honor the lived experiences of others, to willingly challenge inherited beliefs and ideologies, and consequently learn, grow, and serve.”
