Kelly Newsletter
February 2023
Dear Kelly Families~
February is here and hopefully the upcoming month will bring a bit of a warm-up along with it! This school year has truly gone by so quickly. It's hard to believe we will soon be heading into the final trimester of the school year!
Since the holiday break students and staff have been busy completing our winter assessments and are preparing for upcoming parent/teacher/student conferences. Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 2nd from 4:00-7:00pm, Friday, March 3rd from noon-4:00pm and on Tuesday, March 7th from 4:00-7:00pm. Just a reminder that on March 3rd, elementary students will be dismissed at 11:20am. Thanks in advance to our PTO for providing a meal and treats for our teachers during conference week. It is very much appreciated and enjoyed by all!
More information regarding scheduling conferences will be coming soon. We will be utilizing Sign-up Genius again as our conference scheduling tool. We look forward to seeing you all in March to share the academic, social, and emotional growth of your child(ren). It's always exciting to share the successes that our students experience.
Winter Weather Packets~Last week your child brought home a packet of schoolwork to be utilized if we were to have an E-Learning day due to inclement weather. PLEASE KEEP THIS PACKET IN A SAFE PLACE so that it is accessible to your child should the district determine that we will have an E-Learning day. Expectations and directions were included on the front cover of the packet. Students will be marked present for the E-learning day if activities are completed and the choice board is signed and returned to school within 3 days. Teachers will be available via Seesaw or email between 10-11am and 2-3pm on E-Learning days.
All Together for Addison~The Kelly School PTO will be hosting a benefit for Addison Wosick and her family on Monday, February 27th from 5:00-7:00pm. Addison is a fourth grader in Mrs. Pederson's classroom and is the daughter of our first grade teacher, Lindsey Wosick, and her husband, Grant. Addison was diagnosed with a brain tumor over the holiday break. The tumor has been successfully removed and Addison is now undergoing radiation and chemotherapy in Rochester. Our school community wants to support the Wosick family during this difficult time. Please mark your calendar for this special event and plan to join us in the Kelly School gym for a meal, basket raffle, and silent auction. Families will be contacted soon with a request for specific themed basket donations. Thanks in advance for your kindness and generosity.
Please review the information below for upcoming school events. February is looking to be a busy month at Kelly School. As always, should you have any questions, please feel free to contact our school office @ 701-746-2265.
Sincerely,
Kelli Tannahill
Principal

PARENTS LEAD
Setting a Pattern of Rules and Consequences
Kids are less likely to use alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs if their parents have established a
pattern of setting clear rules and consequences for breaking those rules. This applies to no-use
rules about tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs — as well as bedtimes and homework. Have clear
expectations for behavior, monitor your child, and implement appropriate consequences. In
setting these rules, be sure you discuss your rules and expectations in advance and follow
through with the consequences you’ve set.
Don’t forget to acknowledge times when your child follows the rules! Parents who have a warm
relationship with their children while maintaining rules for behavior are teaching their children
self-discipline. Parents who have rules that are too harsh or no rules at all are more likely to
have children who are at greater risk for drug-taking behavior.

Telephone Calls: Calls do not ring into the classroom during school hours to minimize interruptions. Messages for students can be left on the teacher’s voicemail.
Peanut/Nut Free School: When sending a snack or packing a lunch, please remember to check labels to make sure it does not contain or have traces of peanuts/nuts.
Birthday Snacks: Due to the increase of students who have severe food allergies and the higher levels of severity, we no longer celebrate student birthdays with a “birthday snack” in our schools. Parents are welcome to find other non-food items to send to school if they wish. Please discuss with your child’s classroom teacher for ideas or preferences.
Arrival:
The first bell rings at 8:20 am. School begins at 8:25 am. Breakfast is offered 7:40-8:15 am. All students coming to breakfast must use door 16.
