HYMAN FINE NEWS FLASH
May 26, 2024
Good morning Hyman Fine Families,
What an incredible day it was at our Boosterthon Fun Run! We're still buzzing with excitement from all the laughter, smiles, and energy that filled the air. A huge shoutout goes to Bethany and her amazing team for making the event truly memorable for everyone involved.
The biggest shoutout of all goes to YOU, our wonderful HFES families. Your incredible support and generosity helped us raise just over $30,000! This is an outstanding achievement, and we're deeply grateful for your contributions. Every penny raised will go towards funding field trips, interactive TVs and other enriching events, enhancing the educational experience for all our students.
In a time where every donation counts, your kindness and generosity shine brightly. Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication to our school community. Together, we're making a real difference in the lives of our students.
As we head into the long weekend, let's also take a moment to reflect and honor the members of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their bravery and selflessness will never be forgotten.
Wishing you all a fantastic long weekend filled with joy, relaxation, and cherished moments with loved ones.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Noah Collins
Principal
Updates:
Congratulations to Amy Traficante on her selection as the new Academic Support Coordinator! Her skills, experience, and dedication have clearly impressed the screening committee, and she is undoubtedly well-suited for this important role.
As the Academic Support Coordinator, Amy will play a vital role in providing guidance, resources, and assistance to students, helping them thrive academically. With her passion for education and commitment to student success, she is poised to make a significant and positive impact on the entire school community.
We wish Amy all the best as she embarks on this important journey, and we have no doubt that she will excel in her new role.
Additionally, the process to replace both myself and Mrs. Traficante is underway. With a screening committee formed and meetings scheduled, there is hope to have the new administrative team in place by the end of June. HFES is looking forward to welcoming new leadership team and continuing to strive for excellence in our school community.

Message from the Health Office
Respiratory Viral Illnesses
Updated Guidance for Respiratory Viral Illnesses
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) has updated recommendations for schools and the general public to prevent the spread of any respiratory viruses. There are no longer any statewide isolation or quarantine requirements for those who test positive for COVID-19. This aligns with the March 1, 2024, updated guidelines released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The new guidance applies to any respiratory viral illness such as Covid, Flu or RSV. Symptoms of a viral illness include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache.
The new guidance states that even with a positive Covid test, individuals may return to school/work and resume normal activities when:
● they have not had a fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications like acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) AND
● symptoms are improving.
For additional information – please refer to the student handbook under “School and Illness: When your Child Should Stay Home.”
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school nurse.
William James College INTERFACE Referral Service.
Any resident of Attleboro or student attending the Attleboro Public Schools (through a guardian) can access the William James College INTERFACE Referral Service. The INTERFACE Helpline helps individuals in subscribing communities become connected with outpatient mental health and wellness resources.
Through the Helpline that operates from 9 AM- 5 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 8 AM- 6 PM on Tuesday and Thursday, callers will complete an intake which takes about 15-20 minutes and then within a day or so of their call will be assigned to work with a Resource and Referral Counselor who will help them navigate the challenges of finding mental health services, including obtaining a referral match to an outpatient provider, as well as information and resources related to mental health and wellness. Please see What to Expect When You Call the Helpline or visit interface.williamjames.edu for more information.
The INTERFACE Helpline is not an emergency service. If you or the person you are seeking to assist requires a crisis response to meet immediate safety needs, please call 988, 911, go to your local emergency room, or find your local crisis services by calling 833-773-2445 and asking for crisis support.

Attendance
Attendance is critical to the success of your child. They cannot learn if they are not in school. We are asking that your child attend school daily and be on time. We only have them for 180 school days and want to make the most of it. With that being said, there are real and valid reasons why a child needs to be absent, and we 100% support that. Please keep communication open with the school regarding attendance. We are here to support you.

BREAKFAST, LUNCH, and SNACK
BREAKFAST & LUNCH
Massachusetts has extended free school meals for another year. This means that breakfast and lunch will continue to be served at no cost to all students. Please note that even though meals will be free for all, it remains essential for families to complete the household Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals for the 2023-2024 school year. We strongly encourage ALL families to submit this form as it allows us to determine eligibility for P-EBT benefits and waive or reduce transportation, athletics, and other fees. Documenting qualifying families also significantly impacts state funding for our district, so completing the form is a direct way to support our schools.
We ask that lunches from home are nut free when possible.
SNACKS
While sending your child to school with a snack please keep in mind our classrooms are nut safe and no student will be allowed to eat a snack if it is not nut free.
Free / Reduced Lunch Applications
Much like the transportation application process, we will not be sending home paper copies of the SY 23-24 Free/Reduced Lunch applications this year. We will be sending out a series of notifications to families with this information and it is included in the New School Year Information document above. We will send a small number of paper applications to each building so that you have them available if they are requested. Lunch applications can be completed online and are found on the Food Services webpage here:
