Important update from the principal
Dear CP Family,
I’m saddened to inform you that one of our students, Diamond Manly, a senior at our school, passed away over the weekend. Our school community extends our deepest sympathy to his family and the students, families and staff members who knew him.
We care about all of our students at Champlin Park High School and will have resources in place to provide support for them when school resumes on Monday. The death of a classmate may be difficult for some students, even if they didn’t really know the student.
Parents, if you feel it is appropriate, please speak with your student. The National Child Traumatic Stress Network has a helpful resource to guide in any discussions you may have with your student.
We know that some students may already be aware of the death of their classmate and may need support during non-school hours. If you or your child needs help right away, do the following:
Text HOME to 741741 to be connected with a counselor and local resources. Available 24/day, 7 days/week.
Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988.
Text the National Crisis text line: Text “MN” to 741741.
Call 911 for an immediate response from law enforcement.
CPHS will have support staff at school ready tomorrow to help students process this situation.
Support staff from school are also able to refer parents and guardians to professional mental health support for their student in addition to what the school district is able to provide. Call us at 763-506-6800 during regular business hours if we can be of any assistance to you. Also, if your student needs time to grieve at home on Monday please let our school attendance office that is the case and they can excuse this as a personal day.
Please keep Diamond’s support network in your thoughts as they work through this challenging time. Champlin Park High School is committed to the wellbeing of our students and the support of their mental health needs as we work with our parents and guardians as partners in this effort.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Michael George, Principal
