Chromebooks
We have exciting news! Edinburg Classical Academy is committed to preparing our students for a 21st century global society. To that end, we are providing a Chromebook to all students with the goals of:
Increased opportunities for collaboration, communication, and creativity
Increased student engagement in a personalized learning environment
Increased use of technology to enhance teacher instruction
Improved access to both teacher content and robust internet resources to foster acquisition of knowledge and skills
Each student will be assigned a Chromebook that will be used just as they utilize textbooks. They will use them in class and turn them in at the end of the day just as they do their textbooks. With the Chromebook deployment, ECA will also be utilizing GSuite for Education that works hand-in-hand with the Chromebooks. GSuite for Education is a suite of tools that can help increase opportunities for critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, all while supporting the learning objectives that our teachers have for our students. The best thing is that these tools are relevant to students, easy to use, and open doors to many new ways to learn.
The addition of the Chromebook to all classrooms is just one more way that we at ECA continue to blend traditional teaching with 21st century education. Your child will still be using textbooks; they will not go away. Your child will still be required to write. As you know, we strongly believe that writing is very important. That is why we still teach cursive writing. Your child will still engage with the teacher and their fellow students in the classroom through discussions, questions and answers. The Chromebook is just one more tool to help prepare your child for the future by teaching them the Chrome operating system and how to work in the Google environment. No one can predict the future, we can only prepare for what it might bring.
Thank you for joining us in helping your child prepare for their future.

Attendance
Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success—both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous behavior and have a better chance of graduating from high school.
When kids are absent for an average of just two days of school per month—even when the absences are excused– it can have a negative impact. These absences can affect kids as early as Pre-Kindergarten.
Common Sense Media
Common Sense is the leading independent nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids thrive in a world of media and technology. We empower parents, teachers, and policymakers by providing unbiased information, trusted advice, and innovative tools to help them harness the power of media and technology as a positive force in all kids’ lives.
Media and technology are at the very center of all our lives today -- especially our children’s. Kids today spend over 50 hours of screen time every week. The media content they consume and create has a profound impact on their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Learning how to use media and technology wisely is an essential skill for life and learning in the 21st century. But parents, teachers, and policymakers struggle to keep up with the rapidly changing digital world in which our children live and learn. Now more than ever, they need a trusted guide to help them navigate a world where change is the only constant.
