NOVEMBER 26, 2024
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear LCTC Community,
We are about halfway through the second marking period. This is an excellent time to discuss your student's academic progress with them. Please check Parent Connect; if your student appears to be struggling, do not hesitate to contact their teacher.
I would also like to remind you that school will be closed from November 27th to November 29th for Thanksgiving break. We look forward to welcoming students back on December 2nd, refreshed and ready to continue our work together.
On behalf of the entire LCTC staff, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. I hope you have a wonderful holiday filled with warmth, joy, and the company of loved ones.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
With LCTC Pride,
Mrs. Gray
MAGAZINES NEEDED
FASHION MERCHANDISING CLASS
Our Fashion Merchandising Classes are in need of any type of magazines (school appropriate) for classroom projects. If you have some laying around the house and would like to get rid of them, please drop them off to the Livonia Career Technical Center or send them in with a student. We would gratefully appreciate it.
FASHION MERCHANDISING CLASSES
The Fashion Merchandising students attended a field trip to College for Creative Studies.
The college workshops provided an engaging platform for aspiring designers to explore
the world of fashion. The workshop featured hands-on activities, including a sketching session.
ENGINEERING DESIGN
Engineering II students Tanner, Owen and Kadan completed their Solidwork knob project and had a chance to make a two-sided coin. Engineering I students Abby and Allison have completed their Scale house elevation project and are ready to print the Engineering Design class.
GAME DESIGN & ANIMATION/WEB DESIGN
Students in Game Design and Animation/Web Design participated in the MICareer Quest held at the Suburban Collection in Novi. At MICareerQuest Southeast, students experienced the most exciting career exploration event ever held in our state. They joined 8,000 students from more than 125 high schools and met with employers in four exciting career quadrants:
Advanced Manufacturing, Construction, Technology and Health Sciences
The day was filled with engaging, hands-on activities to showcase the skills needed to succeed in nearly 200 in demand, high-skill jobs. MICareerQuest is designed to spark students’ curiosity and most importantly, expand their knowledge of career possibilities available to them after graduation.
Students really enjoyed the experience, and some came away with job offers upon graduation!
ADVANCED MEDICINE CLASSES
Our Advanced Medicine students recently hosted their annual Stuffy Wellness Clinic for the first graders from Buchanan Elementary School. First graders were able to get a checkup for their stuffed friends and learn about the importance of keeping our bodies healthy!
CRIMINAL JUSTICE
A Stevenson High School class of 2023 graduate, and former LCTC Criminal Justice student, Courtney Smitt was hired as a Public Service Aide by the Livonia Police Department. Courtney's duties will include booking and caring for prisoners, writing crash and incident reports, and learning city ordinances. Courtney is attending Schoolcraft College and once she receives 41 college credits, she will be eligible to attend the police academy.
PRE-MEDICINE CLASSES
Pre-Med students from Mrs. Troutman and Mrs. Vertin's classes have been learning about the respiratory system. Here they are learning about normal and abnormal (adventitious) lung sounds. They also learned how to count a patient's respirations, being sure to take note of the rate, rhythm, and character of the respirations. This is in preparation for their next unit, vital signs where they will learn how to take a full set of vitals on a patient. Look for that update, coming soon!
STAR AWARD
"What is a Star Award?
Are you looking for a unique way to thank a Livonia Public Schools staff member? A Star Award honors any LPS employee who has made a difference in a student’s, family’s or fellow staffer’s life. For a $25 donation to the Foundation, a personalized, color certificate will be presented to your honoree, and they will receive recognition on the Foundation’s website and social media platforms as well as the district’s social media platforms. The certificate will be personalized with your praise to show this LPS employee how much they mean to you!
Please click on the link below to send a Star Award to an awesome LPS staff member!

Supporting Youth Going Back to School
Dear Parents and Guardians of the Livonia Public Schools School Community,
As the new school year begins, supporting our youth's mental health is more important than ever. The new school year can bring feelings of both anxiety and excitement as students transition into a new grade, perhaps a new school, and are all in turn learning and growing into who they are.
We have provided a Back to School resource packet for parents and teachers who are navigating through this time. Click here to access to the flyer.
By working together, we can create an environment where our children thrive. Remember, Care Solace offers valuable mental health care coordination services to connect you with community-based providers for counseling, therapy, and more.
To access Care Solace:
- Call 888-515-0595: Their multilingual helpline is staffed 24/7/365.
- Visit www.caresolace.com/livonia: Explore mental health providers independently or click "Book Appointment" for personalized assistance.
By joining hands as a community, we can provide a nurturing environment that supports the mental health and well-being of our youth. Let's prioritize their emotional growth and create a brighter future together.
Thank you for being dedicated parents in the Livonia Public Schools community. Your commitment to our youth is truly commendable.
