ACP at a Glance

This is the place to view highlights of Academic & Career Planning in the Sheboygan Area School District. ALL students grades 6-12 are navigating the SASD ACP process. Each month we focus on a different theme of ACP. Please join in our excitement as we prepare ALL future graduates for the next step in their self-defined career pathway.

Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), play an important role in our district ACP. Our ACP process includes four components; know, explore, plan and go. As students learn more about their interests and skills, explore careers and post-secondary routes to reach those careers, and plan their journey, we build on those early experiences to give our students the opportunity to "Go" while they are still in middle and high school. This "Go" that I'm referring to can come in the form of STEM-related courses and co-curricular offerings. From Project Lead The Way to college credit courses, from Red Raider Robotics to Science Olympiad, the opportunities for our students to acquire a taste and a talent for STEM is boundless. Read below to see just a few examples.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) provides transformative learning experiences for PreK-12 students and teachers across the U.S. The programs create an engaging, hands-on classroom environment and empower students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive. The programs also provide teachers with training, resources, and support they need to engage students in real-world learning. SASD offers twelve different PLTW courses in our middle and high schools! STEMFEST comes to Sheboygan April 12 & 13, providing an exciting two days of hands-on STEM activities led by Michigan Tech's Mind Trekkers as well as Battle Bots competitions, rocket launches with Rockets For Schools, our first Innovation for Good Challenge, and talk with local STEM career experts. INSPIRE Sheboygan County helps your student achieve his/her career goals by bridging the gap between classwork and the work world. INSPIRE creates a way for students and job-seekers to actively interact with area employers and career coaches. By encouraging your child to take advantage of the tools, you can help them discover the career path that is right for them and to attain their career goals. Go here with your high school aged child to view and make a request from the many activities offered by our local employers.

55 SASD graduates in the class of 2017 earned industry certifications. Many of these certifications were in the area of STEM. Watch this video to learn more about the growing importance of these credentials in our changing economy.
