Fabulous February
Looking to What’s Ahead
What a start to the second semester of school it has been so far! We’ve experienced a rare and beautiful snowfall in Louisiana, a reminder of how special this time of year can be. As we continue to focus on maximizing instruction for the remainder of the year, we also embrace the many educational opportunities and awareness events February brings. Let’s dive into the highlights of both local happenings and the important observances taking place this month.
A Rare Snowfall in Louisiana: A Learning Opportunity
Two weeks ago, we witnessed an unusual and awe-inspiring event—a snowstorm in Louisiana! For many of our students, this was their first experience with snow, and what a memorable one it was. Whether it was building snowmen, enjoying snowball fights, or simply marveling at the winter landscape, this event became a spontaneous learning moment. This rare event provided a fun and educational way to connect students to real-world science. Shout out to our administrators, custodial and maintenance staff for quickly fixing issues to allow us to reopen timely.
Educational Awareness Events in February
February is a month filled with awareness events that contribute to both personal growth and learning for our students.
Here are a few of the key events we’re focusing on:
Black History Month (February)
Throughout February, our schools will honor Black History Month, celebrating the significant contributions and achievements of African Americans throughout history. Students will engage in a variety of activities and participate in discussions that promote understanding, empathy, and inclusivity. We encourage families to explore Black history together and reflect on the impact it has had on our nation.
National School Counseling Week (February 5–9)
This week, we celebrate the critical role that school counselors play in supporting our students' academic, social, and emotional development. Our counselors are dedicated to helping students navigate challenges, make informed decisions, and create positive futures. Let’s take a moment to thank them for their continued support and commitment to every student’s well-being.
National Children’s Dental Health Month (February)
Good oral health is key to a healthy life! It’s the perfect time for families to revisit the importance of dental health and ensure that students are taking care of their smiles.
Safer Internet Day (February 5)
In a world where technology is ever-present, it’s essential that our students are equipped with the knowledge to stay safe online. On Safer Internet Day, focus on educating students about digital safety, including how to protect personal information, be mindful of what they share, and navigate online spaces responsibly. This initiative is critical as we continue to ensure that students understand how to use the internet in a safe and informed way.
Valentine’s Day (February 14)
Valentine’s Day is a wonderful reminder of the importance of kindness and friendship. Across our schools, students will be engaging in activities that promote positive relationships, appreciation for others, and the value of kindness. This is a great time to encourage children to reflect on how they can be a positive influence in their communities.
American Heart Month (February)
February is also American Heart Month, and we will be focusing on teaching students about the importance of heart health. Physical fitness challenges, lessons on healthy eating, and discussions about staying active will be part of the month’s activities. It’s an opportunity for families to talk about how taking care of our hearts is key to long-term health and well-being.
Looking Ahead
As we continue into February, let’s remember that every day offers new opportunities for learning and growth.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in making our district a place where students thrive. Together, we’re shaping the future, one lesson at a time.
