This month we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. During this time we celebrate the long and important presence of Hispanic Americans in the United States. The reason it starts on September 15 is because it marks the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico celebrated its Independence on September 16 (today), Chile on September 18, and Belize on September 21. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. The holiday celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
Constitution Day - September 17th
Hey, hey what do you say, today we celebrate Constitution Day! Hip, Hip, Hooray! Tomorrow, September 17th is Constitution Day and we celebrate the United States Constitution which was adopted by the Constitutional Convention in 1787. Did you know the United States Constitution is the oldest and shortest written Constitution of any major government in the world? Constitution Day can be considered the birthday of the US government. This day also celebrates US citizenship and is often called Citizenship Day. So, put on your party hats and let’s celebrate!!
