Kott's Korner
Thank you to the families that have returned the form indicating if you are returning to Davisburg, or not. This information is so helpful in our planning. I also appreciate your input on the “Child Profile Form.” This is your opportunity to tell us more about your child, from the parent perspective. This form is also used in the student placement process. It helps us to balance classes and place your child in the best possible learning environment. If you are wondering, yes, I do read every form that is returned.
With just a few weeks left of the school year, I am surprised at how fast the time has flown by. It is a true joy being part of this awesome learning community! Please remember, I value your partnership. Feel free to contact me with questions, comments, ideas, or concerns. Thank you for the multitude of ways you support your child and our school.
Truly,
Denise Kott

Dress Code Reminder
Now that the weather is warming up, we wanted to remind parents & students of the Holly Area Schools dress code. The following is taken directly from the elementary handbook.
DRESS CODE
Students’ dress and grooming must not disrupt the educational process, interfere with the maintenance of a positive teaching/learning climate, or compromise reasonable standards of health, safety and decency. For example, but not limited to: make-up, bare midriffs, jeans riding low (exposing under garments) without a belt, tight fitting clothes, inappropriate wording/phrases on t-shirts, jewelry, and extreme hair coloring/styles. We expect students to dress appropriately. Shorts are allowed in hot weather. Please keep them fingertips or longer in length. Tank top straps must be 3 finger tips wide. Hats/hoods may not be worn during the instructional day (exception when transitioning in/out of the building). Flip flops may not be worn in the gym or on the playground, please provide a change of shoes for these areas. Tennis shoes are best for gym activities and playground safety.
PTC Information
- We would like to send out a big thank you to the PTC for all the wonderful food you provided for Staff Appreciation Week last week. It's always nice to have one less thing to worry about for the day.
- Also a big thank you to all the current board members for serving the last year or two, your support is always valued and appreciated. Davisburg would not be what it is without the teamwork you provided.
- Flower sales pick up is next Tuesday, 5/21 starting at 4pm in the bus loop. Items can NOT be picked up prior to this as our buses will need this space to load the students.

5/17 Core Competency Revisiting Self Awareness
What is Self Awareness?
So what is self-awareness? CASEL defines it as “The ability to understand one’s own emotions, thoughts, and values and how they influence behavior….”
In other words this competency is all about learning to get to know ourselves which includes things like our identity, likes and dislikes, strengths and challenges, feelings and opinions, and how our mind influences our emotions, words and behaviors.
When students know and understand themselves, they will be able do to things like:
Use coping strategies when getting upset or frustrated
Clearly express their feelings along with wants and needs
Advocate for themselves
Share ideas to cooperate with others
Understand how their actions affects others to resolve conflicts
Figure out how to organize their work in a way that suits them
Make decisions of what hobbies to participate in
Ways to support Self Awareness at home:
To foster self-awareness in your child, help children identify their emotions and feelings. Guide them to react to their emotions properly by taking deep breaths or engaging in a physical activity such as taking a walk. Further, help your child identify their strengths and weaknesses so that compliments and criticisms can be framed appropriately.
