Washington High School Class of 2024 Graduation
Washington High School’s 123rd commencement was held Thursday, May 23, at Washington High School’s Scanlan Stadium. There were approximately 315 seniors in the Class of 2024 who received diplomas. Click here for the story.
School District of Washington Staff Closing Ceremony
The closing ceremony for School District of Washington staff was held Wednesday morning, May 22, in the CJB Theater at Washington High School. The ceremony marked the end of the 2023-24 school year and celebrated accomplishments, presented service awards, technology recognition, recognized and thanked retirees, announced staff scholarships, and announced WINGS awards. Elementary Summer School Bus Routes
Elementary Summer School takes place at Washington West Elementary and Marthasville Elementary from June 3 to June 28. The School District of Washington wants to communicate the planned bus routes for elementary students who have signed up for bus transportation. Click here for the story.
Dr. Gretchen Pohlman Named Washington High School Director of Bands
Dr. Gretchen Pohlman has been named the new Director of Bands at Washington High School. Pohlman is currently the Assistant Director of Bands and Visiting Professor of Music at the University of Akron in Akon, Ohio. She has served at both the K-12 and the post-secondary level as a music educator. She has both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Music from Missouri State University, and a Doctoral Degree from the University of Missouri. Click here for the story.
WHS Senior Vincent Hoang Named Commended Student in National Merit Scholarship Program; Achieves Perfect Score on ACT
Washington High School senior Vincent Hoang has been named a Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from WHS and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, recently was presented by Principal Dr. Eric Turner to Hoang. WHS Student Ellie Hopen Wins Best Landscape Photo in St. Louis Public Radio Teen Photojournalist Contest
Washington High School junior Ellie Hopen recently received the honor of Best Landscape Photo in the St. Louis Public Radio Teen Photojournalist Contest. Hopen and her family attended the awards reception at St. Louis Public Radio on the Saint Louis University campus on May 14. She received $200 and a framed 16X20 copy of her photo entitled, “Icy Cold Winter Day.” Click here for the story.
Augusta Elementary Kindergarten Celebration, Sixth Grade Program
Augusta Elementary held its Kindergarten Celebration and Sixth-Grade Program on Monday evening, May 13. The kindergarten students took part in musical presentation under the direction of music teacher Jon Logan and received certificates for completing kindergarten from Augusta Elementary Principal Dr. Mary Robertson and kindergarten teacher Kim Bratton. Labadie Elementary School held its Kindergarten Showcase on Tuesday, May 7. The kindergarten students, under the direction of Labadie Elementary music teacher Robert Redmond, took part in a musical presentation followed by students receiving certificates for completing kindergarten. The School District of Washington has the distinction of being able to award students with the Seal of Biliteracy. The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school, district, or state in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. South Point Elementary Fourth Grade Students Engage in Water Filtration Project
Fourth grade students in Jennifer Boyce’s classroom at South Point Elementary have been learning about the Tanzania Water Fund, which aims to bring clean water to the villages of rural Tanzania by engaging local communities to build wells that bring water resources closer to home.
