Principal's Message - Mr. Stoney
Dear Mary M. Knight Families,
As we enter the week of October 14th, I'm excited to share some important updates and upcoming events that showcase our commitment to academic excellence, health, and community engagement.
First, I'd like to remind everyone that Monday, October 14th, is our Fall Picture Retake Day. This is a great opportunity for students who missed the initial picture day or would like to retake their photos. Please ensure your child is prepared and looking their best for this occasion.
We're approaching the end of the first quarter, which concludes on October 29th. I encourage all parents to stay actively involved in their child's academic progress. Please take advantage of our Parent Access through Skyward to check grades and assignments regularly. Don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers with any questions or concerns about their academic performance.
I'm thrilled to announce the launch of our Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) for our elementary students. This USDA-supported initiative aims to promote healthy snacking habits and introduce our young learners to a variety of fresh produce. Last week, our students had the opportunity to try kiwis and baby bok choy. We encourage you to discuss these new foods with your children at home and continue fostering their curiosity about healthy eating.
Looking ahead, Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for October 30th to November 1st. Elementary conferences will be scheduled through individual teachers, while secondary conferences will be drop-in style. Please make every effort to attend these important meetings, as they provide valuable insights into your child's progress and allow for collaborative goal-setting.
I'd also like to highlight our continued focus on recognizing student achievement through our GRIT (Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity) awards. Congratulations to all our elementary and secondary GRIT award recipients for the week of October 7th. Your dedication to embodying these important qualities is truly commendable.
For our sports enthusiasts, we have several exciting events this week, including flag football, volleyball, and a home football game on Saturday. I encourage our community to come out and support our student-athletes.
Lastly, if you haven't already done so, please download our new Mary M. Knight District App. It's a fantastic tool to stay connected with all things MMK, right at your fingertips.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in education. Together, we continue to build a community of learners and leaders, united in enriching the lives of all our students.
Go OWLS!

New MMK Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program
We are thrilled to announce that our Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) kicked off this week! This initiative, supported by the USDA, aims to promote healthy snacking habits among our elementary students and introduce them to a variety of fresh produce.
On Tuesday, our elementary students enjoyed trying kiwis for the first time. Did you know that kiwi skins are edible? They add a bit of extra fiber and nutrients, so if your child enjoyed them, feel free to encourage tasting the skin next time!
On Thursday, our elementary students explored the unique flavors of baby bok choy. This leafy green is not only delicious but also packed with vitamins and minerals.
We encourage you to discuss these fruits and vegetables with your children at home and continue fostering their curiosity about healthy eating. Thank you for your support as we promote nutritious choices in our school!
