Please send in your used AA, AAA, C, D batteries to recycle. Recycling batteries helps keep acid from leaking into our water systems. Collection will end on Oct. 31st!
Veterans Collection Drive
This Fall, South Elementary is partnering up with Veterans Path to Hope in McHenry County. We will be having a Veterans Coin and Food Drive from October 1st thru Veterans Day (November 11th). All donations will be given to Veterans Path to Hope to help their mission in providing services to veterans in need and their families. Contributions will support veteran counseling, dinners for weekly support groups, emergency shelter and much more. Please consider sending in your spare change and food donations from the provided list to help our veterans. Collection for change and food items will be in the school front entryway. Thank you for helping us support veterans in our area! Please click the link to see the donation list.
Weather Information
As the cold weather approaches, please make sure that your child/children’s fall and winter items are labeled with their name. Please have children properly dressed in a coat with other accessories as needed. Students go outside whenever the temperature permits.
Halloween Information
As a reminder, as you prepare for Halloween, please keep in mind that costumes need to be appropriate for a school setting. Please refrain from fake weapons and blood, scary costumes, and/or inappropriate costumes that may cause fear for children. If a child comes with an inappropriate costume, they will not be able to wear it for our parade and party. Thank you for your support and understanding.
Family Assistance Form
Throughout the school year, the school is often asked by various community agencies to submit names of families who would appreciate some assistance, usually with clothing and food items. If your family finds themselves needing assistance, please fill out the paper form that is being sent home this week and have your child bring it back to school and turn it in to the main office.
Upcoming Events
On Sunday, October 27th, South Elementary is hosting Trunk-or-Treat in the South Elementary School Parking Lot starting at 10am (set up from 9-10am)! Once trunk-or-treating is complete, kids are welcome to play on the playground. All South Elementary families are welcome to attend this free event. We are looking for at least 20 families/staff-members to decorate their trunks and bring candy to pass out candy as South students and their siblings "trunk or treat" in their costumes. If you will be attending without decorating your trunk, there is no need to sign up. More families/trunks are needed - sign up today!: Trunk-or-Treat Sign Up. Prizes will be handed out for best decorated trunk, most creative trunk, most interactive trunk, spookiest trunk, and silliest trunk.
Take a break from cooking and support South Elementary for our next dine out event. Portillos in Crystal Lake will donate 20% of sales made by South Families from 5:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, November 13th. Be sure to show this digital flyer first thing when placing your order in person (to the first order taker in the drive thru) or enter code Portillos23 online or through their app in the "Apply Offer" field. Thank you for supporting South Elementary!
