Summer Reading: Boost Their Brain Power!
Summer is the perfect time to help your child grow as a reader—and it’s easier than you think! Just 20 minutes of reading a day can make a big difference. Studies show that kids who read regularly over the summer build stronger vocabularies, improve comprehension, and are more confident learners when school starts again.
Why Summer Reading Matters:
Prevent the “Summer Slide”: Without regular reading, students can lose up to two months of learning over the summer.
Grow Vocabulary & Comprehension: Reading exposes children to new words and ideas, enhancing their understanding and language skills.
- Build Confidence & Critical Thinking: Engaging with stories helps children think critically and boosts their self-esteem as readers.
Tips to Make Reading Fun:
Let Them Choose: Let your child pick books that interest them, such as those about animals, adventures, or mysteries.
Read Together: Share stories aloud, take turns reading, and discuss the plot to deepen understanding.
Mix It Up: Include a variety of reading materials, such as comics, cookbooks, or magazines, to keep things exciting.
Create a Reading Routine: Set aside a special time each day for reading, making it a cherished part of your summer schedule.
Remember, the goal is to make reading enjoyable and part of your daily routine. Happy reading!

BWRSD Events
This event is designed for adults and alumni of Guiteras. Children are welcome to attend but must remain with their adult.
Bristol Warren elementary schools are once again excited to offer our students options for grade 5 music in each elementary school! We have updated our music program to be more performance-based, offering students a more hands-on and engaging experience. Students entering grade 5 will have the opportunity to choose between two music class options: General Music/Chorus or Beginning Band. Both options include a performance component and are designed to develop students' musical skills in meaningful and enjoyable ways.
To assist us in our planning, we ask that all families of students entering grade 5 next year complete this brief music preference form by May 30th. If you have already completed this form, you do not need to fill it out again.
Thank you,
Christopher Lambert, Music Department Chair
