The News
We are approaching the holidays with Thanksgiving Break coming up next week and Christmas Break just three weeks after Thanksgiving Break. This is a fun and very busy time in our schools. We be trying to squeeze in celebrations, a fashion show, several basketball games, meetings and still get the work done in classroom that needs to be done. Please encourage your child to be at school every day to be prepared for midterm exams. Our midterm exams will be on Monday (December 16) and Tuesday (December 17).
College Tours- Many of our Seniors visited two college campuses this week. On Tuesday, they toured the campus of the University of North Alabama. On Friday, they toured the campus of Itawamba Community College in Mississippi.
Students Taking the Lead- I am really proud of our students. I'm especially proud two students- Ayla Stowe and Trace Duboise. Both students stepped in the led devotionals at recent Impact meetings. These are meetings we have on Wednesday mornings before school opens for any student or staff member. Many times they are led by someone a student recommended.
Shelby Grissom Memorial Fashion Show- Our FACS program will be producing the annual Shelby Grissom Memorial Fashion Show on Thursday, November 21. They are still looking for some door prizes for this great event. If you would like to make donations, contact Mrs. Aleah Harris at school
Basketball- As someone who writes about sports for a newspaper, I can tell you keeping up with sports from November to May is incredibly tough. There are so many games during the week between junior high and varsity and boys and girls that some can get lost in the chaos- even at one school. If I miss a win here or there it is not intentional. I will do my best.
With that said, our junior high girls and boys beat Cherokee Monday night. Our varsity girls and boys opened the season with wins at Cherokee. The boys won their game in overtime. On Thursday, our varsity boys beat Belmont on the road. On Friday, our junior high and varsity basketball teams beat Phillips. The varsity boys game ended on a three-pointer at the buzzer by Austin Elliott. On Saturday, our junior high girls beat Red Bay.
We have another busy week ahead with three home nights against Marion County, Tharptown and Red Bay and a road contest at Double Springs.
State of the Schools: The annual State of the Schools program will be held at Russellville High School's auditorium on Thursday at 6pm for anyone interested in learning what has been going on in our local schools for the past year.
Reminder: We will be on Thanksgiving Break next week. There will be no school the week of November 25-29.
Have A Great Week and Happy Thanksgiving!
