Weekly Update

The boys and girls cross country team participated in the CAL championship on 10/19 at Stockton University. The boys came in 2nd place overall. Senior Amir Halim was our first finisher. The girls came in 3rd place with senior Kiki Schlemo placing 4th overall.

Girls tennis finished the regular season with wins over Middle Township (3-2) and Lower Cape May (4-1) this week. Freshman Camille More had an outstanding rookie season with a 12-4 record at first singles. Regular season team record is 8-8. The team moves on to the South Jersey tournament this weekend and the CAL tournament next week.

EHT Girl's Soccer keeps rolling with victories in the first two rounds of the CAL tournament as well as a win over OLMA to move to 12-3-2 on the year. This five-game win streak in which the Eagles have outscored their opponents 19-2 has propelled EHT into the 5th seed in the South Jersey Group IV playoff which starts next week.

Let's recap: Last Friday, EHT handed the Mainland Mustangs a loss for the third time this year. This time, it came in the CAL tournament quarterfinals with a scoreline of 4-0! Junior captain Aniyah Parker banged in two goals to lead the Eagles while sophomore Brielle VonColln, EHT's leading point scorer, netted one herself. Freshman Madelyn Johnson put the game out of reach with a goal late in the game for her first career varsity goal. Junior Abby Lyon made four saves in the shutout.

EHT then took on a 12-3 OLMA team who finished 2nd in the CAL National conference. EHT scored early and often with VonColln and senior captain Gabriella Piantadosi netting one a piece in the first 15 minutes of the game. Sophomore Arianna Nguyen and senior DaMyah Burrous each scored spectacular goals on corner kicks to widen the lead for the Eagles. The final score was 4-1 and propelled the Eagles to eleven wins on the season.

On Wednesday, EHT traveled to the CAL United conference champions Lower Cape May who sported a 12-2 record coming into the match. This CAL semi-final was never close as EHT controlled more than 80% of the possession and netted three in the first half. Once again, the dynamic duo of VonColln and Piantadosi scored one each, and sophomore Abby Mathis tallied a brace with a goal in each half to lead the Eagles to a 4-0 victory and a birth into the CAL final. The Eagles await the winner of Ocean City vs Holy Spirit. Junior goalkeeper Lyon kept the clean sheet with a record-tying 11th shutout on the season.

The Eagles close out the season with the CAL final on Monday, a trip to Holy Cross Prep HS on Tuesday, and the beginning of the SJ Group IV playoff on Thursday. Good luck, Lady Eagles!

On Wednesday the boys traveled to Richland to take on the Hermits of St. Augustine Prep in a CAL semi-final playoff game. The boys competed throughout the 80 minutes, however, could not find the back of the net. The boys lost 4 nil. The Eagles will regroup and prepare for the first round of Group IV Sectionals. Time and opponent to be determined.

Girls' Volleyball qualified for the CAL tournament as the 6 seed after beating Absegami last Thursday. The ladies made the trip west to the 3 seed, OLMA, on Tuesday. Despite a valiant effort led by Averie Harding (junior, 5 kills) and Avery Hickey (sophomore, 5 kills) the girls' fell to OLMA in 2 sets. Scores were a competitive 25-20 and 25-23. The JV team defeated OLMA earlier in the afternoon in 2 sets. Izzy Veltri (sophomore) and Kaylee Beck (freshman) had 4 aces each.

EHT Field Hockey is currently 5-9 overall. We had a big win last Saturday 2-1 over Triton. Goal scorers were Madison Fortis and Skylar Wood, Jenna Gray assisted both goals.

Our next game is Friday home vs Holy Spirit at 3pm and then at Cherokee Saturday.

We play home at 415 Monday next week vs Oakcrest and then home at 4 pm on Wednesday vs Middle to finish our regular season.

TOP 5 Took the win

The Cross Country team represented Fernwood at the annual Hero Walk/Fun Run on Sunday. Fernwood XC teammates Molly Rooney, Emma Baird, Neena Peter, Lily Tosh, Noah Baird, Jack McDevitt, Eason Lassiter, and Coach Mosetti ran the 1-mile Fun Run joined by parents and friends.

The Alder Girls Soccer team won a battle on Monday against Fernwood by a score of 2-1. The win improved the teams record to 4-0-1. Scoring a goal a piece were Marissa Baxter and Emmie Knaak. Playing excellent in goal was Gianna Galego. Also playing well were Corinne Conley, Cori Bird, and Avery Schultz.

The Alder Girls Soccer team defeated Upper Township on Thursday by a score of 3-1. Scoring two goals were Emmie Knaak and Julia Sroka added a goal. The win improved the teams record to 5-0-1. Playing excellent defense was Payton Crowell, Harper Cross, Stella Simon, and Marissa Mazur. Also playing well was Katie Coupland, Caitlyn Hager, and Julianna Finnerty. Excellent team effort by all!

The Fernwood Girls Soccer Team defeated Galloway on Friday 4-1. Gabriella Burbach and Siena Jaworski each scored for Fernwood to start it off, with both goals assisted by Kylie Lambert. Avery Eykyn added a goal off a rebound from a shot by Carlee Cruse, and Kaycee Biel capped it off with a final goal assisted by Laney Kraybill. Libby Chait and Meg Eye each played goalkeeper for a half to help secure the win for Fernwood. Great win girls, big game against Alder today at the High School.

The Fernwood Girls Soccer team lost a tough match against Alder yesterday 2-1. After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, the team battled back in the second half, but ultimately fell just short. Kylie Lambert scored the lone goal for Fernwood on a great shot from just outside the 18. Libby Chait, Reagan Aron, and Brielle Taluba played great defense to keep it close, and Gab Burbach, Carlee Cruse, Kaycee Biel, and Siena Jaworski all played well on offense to keep the pressure on in the second half. The loss was the team’s first of the season and brings their record to 3-1-1.

Alder boys soccer tied Fernwood 1-1 on Tuesday with an exciting finish. Steven Foster scored the tying goal with less than a minute left. Thursday we beat Davies 7-0, to continue our undefeated season.

The boys soccer team played a great game yesterday against Alder Avenue tying them 1-1. Sixth grader Jacob Arreguin scored the lone goal for the Eagles to put the team ahead. However, with just one minute left in the game, Alder Ave scored a goal to tie it up. Defensively, fullbacks Nathan Rosenberg, Abraham Leonardo de Castro and Zach Burbach held it down for the Eagles. Goalkeeper Owen Moore made numerous great saves to keep the team in the game.

Alder Field Hockey played Fernwood on Monday, October 16th and tied them for the second time of the season with a scoreless game. Alder’s goalie, Skylar Littley had 9 saves!

On Thursday Alder beat Upper 1-0. Adriana Afanador scored the winning goal with about 3 minutes left in the game while Skylar Littley recorded the shutout with 13 saves!

Fernwood Field hockey had two ties and one win the past week. The team beat Galloway 2-0. Joanna Napoli and Bridget Corcoran each scored for Fernwood while Anna Griko had the shutout. The two ties were against Alder and Davies, both scores were 0-0. Leah Cocozza had three big saves in the 4th quarter to keep Davies off the scoreboard.
