Principal's Post
Dear Main Elementary Families,
I can’t believe it’s already September! August certainly had some great moments - I appreciate all the families who braved the heat and attended the Back to School Bash. We have been very busy at school establishing our expectations. Our focus this year as a staff has been learning about how the brain works and how stress and trauma impact a child’s ability and readiness to learn. We will be conducting a book study with our families who are also interested in learning about this topic. More details will come soon!
September brings a whole new level of excitement. Our Beaver-Main-ia starts August 30th and runs until September 13. Our goal is to raise $40,000 to go toward classroom materials, playground equipment and repairs, and many other things. Please see this video for more information (as well as some goofy hijinks.) Participation is purely optional and students will celebrate our success with an obstacle course and tie dye the principal event (for those that raise $25) on September 20. I also look forward to the homecoming parade on September 26.
There are 2 important parent events on September 24. From 3:00 - 4:00, Mr. Otten and I will be at Central Office for a community chat. We will be there to listen and answer questions about Main or anything about the district. From 6:30-8:00 at the BHS Auditorium there will be a Bond Issue Overview meeting where you can learn about the upcoming bond issue and ask any questions you might have. We hope to see you there!
As always, please contact your child’s teacher or me if you have any questions or concerns. We want this to be an excellent year full of growth and excitement for your child.
Thank you,
Jon Webb

Library News
Dear Main Families,
Your children have been learning how to take care of library books, and are bringing their first checkouts home! Please encourage them to enjoy and care for their books. They should bring their books with them each week when they come to the library, whether they are returning them or renewing them. Late notices will be sent to you via email. There are no late fees, but we want the students to return the books on time so that others can enjoy them. Most of all, we want them to read the books! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me via email.

Clinic News
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Starting in September I will be conducting the annual screenings for vision and hearing. This practice is done every year, on every child in the state of Ohio in grades Pre-K,
Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 3rd Grade, 5th Grade, 7th Grade and 9th Grade. This process allows us to assess who may or may not need further evaluation in regards to vision and/or hearing. Since these tests are merely a screening, the results are not diagnostic, but are definitely great indicators for uncovering potential needs in these areas. That being said, it is always highly recommended that all children have yearly formal examinations for vision and hearing by a practitioner – regardless of these results.
If your child is shown to need further assessments based on my screenings, you will receive a letter from me indicating which area(s) they are being referred for. This letter will go home with the children (in their backpacks). If you do not receive a follow up letter, then it can be
assumed that your child passed these screenings and no further assessments are needed at this time.
Some children will come home with referrals for evaluation simply because I was unable to test them (related to fearfulness of evaluation, inability to follow instructions, or unable to respond because of certain diagnoses, etc). If I am unable to test your child, you will receive a letter for referral for evaluation by a private practitioner. If your child has already seen a specialist, you can provide a copy of the results to place in your child’s school medical folder. If your child has already had one or both of these screenings AND I have received a copy of the results, I will not need to screen them (unless requested).
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at any time.
Sincerely,
Nichole Thomas, RN

Attendance & Office Information
To report an absence or late arrival, please call the absence line, 937-429-7588 option 1 - or send an email to mainattendance@gocreek.org. Include your child’s name, teacher & reason for the absence or late arrival. Please bring or send in doctor/dentist notes from appointments within 5 school days when your child returns to school.
All parents, guardians, and visitors will need to check in at the security window first before entering the building and to sign students in and out of school. Please have your government issued ID and present this at the check in window. All visitors who will be coming into the main building will need to have their driver's license scanned at the window.
If you receive a missed call from Main, please take a few moments to check your voicemail. Most times there is no emergency, and someone has left you a message. The office does not know where to direct your call if you call back immediately without first checking your message.
When sending notes, lunch money and misc. payments to school, please include your child’s first and last name, the date, and the teacher’s name. For payments, also include what the check/cash is for.
Limit the bringing of items forgotten by students to urgent items. Items must be left on the cart in the vestibule. Stickers are provided to label items with student name and homeroom.
Free Tutoring Opportunity
Tutoring at the Beavercreek Community Library will start September 4 and is held on Wednesdays from 4-7pm and Saturdays 10am-1pm. The tutoring is free to students in grades K-12 and they do NOT have to be Beavercreek students. With that said, it is a drop in style and parents do not need to make an appointment. All of the tutors are either current or retired teachers. Students may bring their own materials, but we also have a plethora of activities for students as well.
