A Love Letter to the Underappreciated
Cats, friends, lovers, books, movies. They get our love all the time. We go on and on about our affection for them in a whole host of ways. But what about the underappreciated loves? Those favorite things in our lives that we fail to mention as often because love for them is less widely shared. This month write a love letter to one of those!
Here are some suggestions: Your favorite…
- letter of the alphabet,
- article of clothing,
- comfort food,
- time of day,
- season, or
- even your favorite condiment!
- Or what about your first car, first baseball glove, or first guitar?
Here’s our suggestions about what to include in the letter: All the ways you love them, your memory of how they first came into your life, how your life would be without them in it, how they changed you for the better, what they taught you. And it’s not just about how you loved/ love them; it’s also about naming and acknowledging how they loved/love you back.
Yes, it may sound like a silly exercise, but we guarantee you that it will take you deeper than you think!

THE DICTIONARY OF LOST WORDS by Pip Williams
Set during the height of the women’s suffrage movement and with the Great War looming (1914 – 1918), this story reveals a lost narrative, hidden between the lines of a history written by men. Inspired by actual events, the author has delved into the archives of the Oxford English Dictionary to tell the original story.
Book Club meeting on line (www.tinyurl.com/uucsjszoom) Friday at 7:00 pm on February 17th.
All are welcome to join the meeting.

Circle Dinners are back, after a long Covid shutdown!
The first Circle Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 18th.
Circle dinners are a way for people to get together for the purpose of getting to know each other better over a meal and enjoying each other’s company. There are usually 8 people at each dinner, and there are as many dinners as the sign-ups for them can support. Each couple, or singles grouped as a twosome, are assigned a course. Hosts hold the dinner in their home, or the UU Center, and provide appetizers, water, coffer and tea. Other assignments are Main Course, Salad and Bread, Dessert. Sign-ups will begin this Sunday and continue until March 5th. The hope is that there will be enough interest to schedule two more dinners this Spring.
Sign-up sheets along with a complete description will be available at the back table in the Sanctuary. The schedule with course assignments will go out shortly after the March 5th deadline. You may also sign up my emailing mariet@comcast.net, be sure to include your name, email, address and phone number.
Circle dinners are a great away for newer members and friends to get to know us in a fun,
relaxed atmosphere. Please consider joining us.

Common Read: The 1619 Project 📖
February 22, March 8, March 22, April 19 and May 3, 7–8:30 PM
Online
The UU FaithAction NJ Reparations Task Force is pleased to announce the common read of The 1619 Project, edited by Nikole Hannah-Jones, Caitlin Roper, Ilena Silverman and Jake Silverstein.
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book expands that work, weaving together essays, poems and fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle and resistance.
Our schedule will consist of five Wednesday evening meetings, 7:00 to 8:30 PM, via Zoom.
Article II Study Commission Report
The Article II Study Commission has completed its two year study. They submitted their report (PDF 26 pages) to the UUA Board of Trustees at their meeting held on January 20, 2023. The report includes the Study Commission's recommended revisions to Article II.
Article II of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Bylaws, Principles and Purposes, is the foundation for all of the work of our UUA and its member congregations and covenanted communities. It is the covenant to which all of our congregations and covenanted communities pledge themselves when they become members of our UUA.
