I Read Canadian Day, Wed. Nov. 6, 2024
While I Read Canadian Day is recognized on Wed. Nov. 6th, we're going to celebrate Canadian books and authors all month long! :)
TREATS & PAGES, OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL BOOK CLUB
This year we are spotlighting different favourite middle school authors. Read a book by the author before the meeting and then be sure to sign up for some freshly baked cookies, a slice or two of pizza or some other treat on the Monday or Tuesday before the meeting. Meetings will happen in the Learning Commons on the Wednesday during the outside time.
READING LINK CHALLENGE FOR GRADES 4 + 5!
Grade 4 and 5 students have an opportunity to join a Reading Club that is sponsored by our public libraries! Six titles were just announced on Nov. 1st! Students will be put in to teams of a maximum of 6. They read all or many of the titles and prepare for a trivia like competition where they will compete first at a school level, then at a district and even possibly at a Lower Mainland event. Click on Reading Link Challenge image to learn more about this!
Stitó:s Reads Interview
Mrs. Payne, Early Literacy Intervention Support Teacher
1) What are you currently reading?
- Beneath the Surface of Words
- The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
- Mon repertoire des regularites orthographiques
- 101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think
2) What are 3 suggestions you would give parents and guardians to encourage reading at home?
- Enjoy all kinds of books together and have conversations about them.
- Listen to audiobooks and podcasts at home and in the car
- Write/draw little notes back and forth to each other and hide them in fun places.
3) Paper books, e-books or audiobooks?
I always have at least one of each on the go so that I am never without a book. I always have at least one fiction and one non-fiction book on the go too, so that I have a book that fits every mood. I like to read multiple books at once, and I only re-read a book if I'm readin it to someone else.
PLEASE SUBMIT BOOK REVIEWS
Students and/or families are invited to submit super short book reviews of favourite reads that they would like to recommend to others.

BOOKS FOR BABIES
We like to welcome the new arrivals to the families of our school. Please let me know if you have a new baby in your family! Your children who are already at our school may choose a board book and help me prepare this gift to bring home.
