District 103
School Board Highlights
March 12, 2024
Celebrating Success
Sprague kindergartners shared with board members a wide range of computer science skills including how to program robots to do simple tasks and using a coding platform to create simple programs. Instructional Technology Coach Simon Vasey explained that it is all part of the Illinois Computer Science Standards for early childhood education to help students learn problem-solving, logical thinking, sequencing, and more.
Staffing Plan
The Board continued its discussion of the district’s staffing plan for the 2024-2025 school year. The plan utilizes the current and projected enrollment, current programming, and future needs. The board will approve the staffing plan at a future meeting.
Student Behavior
There is a nationwide increase in students engaging in inappropriate behavior, and the Board discussed the strategies the district uses to address this issue within our schools. Proactive strategies include social-emotional learning curriculum, treating others with respect and kindness, and how to activate the bystander to support a person being teased or bullied. Reactive strategies include investigating the situation, talking with students, notifying parents, utilizing restorative justice to have the student correct the behavior, and consequences when appropriate.
