- There's nothing that comes to mind.

- Everyone here's a nerd and weird so don't be afraid to do that too.

- Extras by Molly Daisy Scarpine since I think it's about trying new things and I've been doing that a lot so far.
If you had a week off, what would you spend your time doing?
- College applications and drawing.
Is there anything else you would like to share or comment on?
- I really want to know what foods people chose to describe their senior year.

- Not really a comment but I think a fun thing for seniors to do this year would be to give teachers awards during the end of year assembly.
Staff Spotlight - Interview Conducted by TVMSC Staff Reporter: Charlotte Meng :)
Mrs. Madison Langer - Biological Sciences
Teacher Spotlight by Charlotte Meng
Having grown up in the quaint town of Bellingham, Washington, Ms. Madison Langer always dreamed of being a teacher as an elementary school student. In college, she pursued her goal of becoming a doctor at the University of Portland and realized that she truly enjoyed being a Teacher Assistant (TA) at the school. Fueled by her passion for tutoring and teaching, Mrs. Langer attended Boise State University (BSU) to become a high school science teacher. “After I attended BSU, I really enjoyed the small-town charm of Boise,” she explained in an interview. “I first taught chemistry at Timberline High School before coming to TVMSC.” She is now a Biology and Anatomy & Physiology teacher at TVMSC.
Mrs. Langer enjoys her time with her husband, Trenton, and her one-year-old daughter, Stella, who is full of energy, always with a big smile on. “I always look forward to coming home to their joy and support,” she remarked. One of her favorite rainy day pastimes is playing board games, such as Catan, Citadels, and Ticket to Ride, with her family.
Even though this is only her fourth year as a TVMSC teacher, Mrs. Langer has nothing but praise for the school’s vibrant community and naturally curious students. “I love how all of my students pose the most interesting and challenging questions,” she commented. “I find it amazing that I have a job where I can connect class topics with possible career options, such as engineering or biochemistry.” In her Anatomy and Physiology class, Mrs. Langer also takes joy in delving deeper into neurobiology research with her students as they navigate evolving and complex topics.
One of her favorite teaching approaches is to encourage students to learn from their classmates through collaboration and cooperation. For many projects, she takes pride in providing many options and mediums for students, from comic strips to concept mapping. “It’s always important to me that I set students up for college by encouraging them to create their own study strategies that work the best for them,” she explained. Ultimately, her hope is to tailor to every student’s unique learning style by providing a multitude of engaging hands-on activities in class.
In the future, Mrs. Langer looks forward to ongoing learning as an educator each year, specifically about the function of artificial intelligence in the classroom. “It’s very new to me, but I’m fascinated by how it can work to enrich the curriculum for future students,” she said. Outside of the classroom, she is excited to watch Stella grow up and to go back to visit her family in Washington. She is also hoping to have a second child and to take her family to the Oregon Coast in the near future.

Festival of Trees 2024
We are already thinking about the holidays. This year is the 40th annual Festival of Trees and we need help to make it the most spectacular Festival ever. The dates of the 2024 Festival of Trees are Wednesday, November 27 to Sunday, December 1. We also have volunteer opportunities on Sunday, November 24 for move-in.
Funds raised during the 40th annual Festival of Trees will be dedicated to expanding crucial services offered by the Saint Alphonsus Cancer Institute. Make a profound impact on the fight against cancer by join us at the 2024 Festival of Trees.
The students and teachers from your school are some of our most valuable volunteers. To be able to participate and volunteer, students must be at least 14 years old. The Festival is a fun way for students to earn their community service credits and help make a difference in healthcare in your community. The students should also be encouraged to make this special event a family volunteer opportunity. We would love to have teachers volunteer, too! Please have students sign up on their own. We are asking the students to use their personal or parent's email address and not the school email address.
Please have students interested in volunteering register online. If there are any questions, please call Janelle 208-861-9949 or email iowa_girl10@msn.com.
Volunteer Website: www.saintalphonsus.org/volunteer-at-the-festival
The volunteer registration is available until Friday, November 15, 2024
We will be sending out shift confirmation emails to each student. Please contact us if you have any questions.
