I am excited to share that we will have will a Canine Instructional Assistant here on campus at Sycamore Canyon. Waffles is a 20-month old English Bulldog that is AKC Good Citizen Approved. We have witnessed on other campuses the power and motivation of having a support animal on campuses can do. Used as an academic, social emotional, and behavior reward support system. Waffles, with the guidance of a specific adult, will be used to support reading growth, modeling emotions, and rewarding students that are kind, respectful, problem solvers.

If you do NOT want your child to participate in the Canine Instructional Assistant Program with Waffles for any reason, please simply email me directly at tylene.hicks@santeesd.net and I will happily make accommodations.

Remember...

• School starts at 8:30 AM and the gates close at that time. If you arrive at school after 8:30 AM, you must check into the office and receive a tardy pass. We have to be sure we are accounting for all students and don't want anyone missed when attendance is taken.
• Parents and Guests must check into the office if they are visiting for any reason. We are not yet hosting volunteers on campus. Our first opportunity with be with Breakfast Club on Wednesday. Please be sure you have completed a Volunteer Packet online.
• Please be sure if you exit the campus during the school day, you must enter and exit through the front office.
• Our dismissal times are Preschool - 11:30 AM, TK - 12:00 PM, Kindergarten - 2:10 PM, 1st-3rd Grade - 2:20 PM, and 4th-6th Grade - 2:46 PM. Please do not be late to pick up your students.

• Santee School District is proud to recognize and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Students identifying as Hispanic or Latino make up approximately 30% of our school communities, and this month our schools will be learning about and celebrating the rich culture, history, and contributions of Hispanic Americans.

• The PRIDE Assisting our Community (P.A.C.) Room is open and available to all families in the district. If you are in need of toiletry or household items for any member of your family, please contact PRIDE Academy’s school social worker or make a appointment to visit the P.A.C. • Join us for the What I Wish My Parents Knew Forum on Tuesday, Sep. 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at PRIDE Academy. What I Wish My Parents Knew (WIWMPK) is a parent-youth forum that brings together resources, youth-voices, and subject matter experts, to identify topics related to mental and behavioral health among families. Over Spring Break and Summer, most families completed the "A.I.R. Process" to update your family contacts, addresses, and phone numbers. Please be sure to log into Powerschool and check your contact information. If something is inaccurate, please reach out to our Attendance Clerk or send an email to the office so we can fix any inaccuracies.

During the school year, if you want to update an emergency contact, your address, or your phone number changes, please communicate with our Attendance Clerk. We want to be sure we always have the most accurate information available at all times. Thank you!

**If you are a returning family, and you did not complete the A.I.R. Process, your student will not be allowed to use or take home their iPad until the process is completed. Within the process is our Use of Technology Agreement form as well as some other necessary forms. Please see the office if you have any questions.
