May & June 2024
School's Out
It is hard to believe that school is out already and we are preparing for the 2024- 2025 school year. Below you will see many accomplishments that our students have achieved. You will also note dates that the office will be closed either due to cleaning or staff not being in the office due to vacations, etc. Please remember to call before making a trip in to verify someone is there to take care of what you need.
Have a safe and restful summer. The next school year will be a great one!
GO EAGLES!!!
Dead Week
We are, once again, having our Dead Week. This is scheduled for the week of July 1st to July 5th. The Gymnasium will be undergoing resurfacing and the school office will be getting cleaned. It is a time we encourage our athletes and families to relax and give themselves a break. Plan a family outing and disconnect. We will be back at it on July 8th.
2024 Congressional Art Competition for Ohio's 5th Congressional District
Congratulations to all the EHS artists who were chosen to exhibit in 2024 Congressional Art Competition for Ohio's Fifth Congressional District with Representative Bob Latta. Each year, the Congressional Art Competition provides a tremendous opportunity to showcase the wealth of artistic talent in Ohio’s Fifth Congressional District. It began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved in the nationwide competition. High school students who live or attend school in Ohio’s Fifth Congressional District were encouraged to submit a piece of art for this year’s competition.

Eastwood Band Earns Top Rating at OMEA State Large Group Band Competition
The Eastwood High School Concert Band was 1 of 8 Class C Bands in NW Ohio from a field of 14 to earn a Superior I rating at the Ohio Music Education Association State Large Group Band Adjudicated Event held April 26-27 at Findlay HS. This marks the third time in 31 years that Eastwood has earned a I rating at the State Level. Eastwood qualified for State competition when they earned a Superior I rating at the District level on March 15.
The Superior rating of a “I” (one) is earned for "an outstanding performance, with very few technical errors and exemplifying musical expression. This rating is reserved for the truly outstanding performance," according to the OMEA rating description.
At OMEA State Large Group, bands perform three prepared pieces. One of the pieces must be from an OMEA list of music which determines the band's class. A new piece must be selected from the list when advancing to the State level. Eastwood selected two new pieces this year.
The three prepared pieces are performed for a panel of three judges. Each judge rates the group from I to V with I being the best. Then the band is moved to another room for sight reading. The band is given a new piece of music. After only 4 minutes of individual study and 4 minutes of director instructions, they perform the new piece. A fourth judge assigns a rating from I to V. The four scores are averaged for a composite rating. Eastwood earned two I’s and a II on prepared pieces and a I in sight for the best rating possible of a I. The Eastwood Band is directed by Brian Myers and Jonathan Roode.
Congrats to the EHS Band!!!

New Mascot Costumes
We are in the process of trying to raise funds to offset the cost of obtaining new Eagle Mascot costumes to be used by the Athletic Department, Pep Crew, Student Council and events where we feel the mascot will help boost enthusiasm and school pride. We have been able to purchase one, but are hoping to purchase a second (one male and one female), but at $1,500 - $2,000 a piece, it is going to take time. We are hoping to have a Mr. and Miss Eagle! The first Eagle was introduced at Decision Day!
If you feel so inclined, and would like to contribute to the cause, please feel free to send check or cash to the high school office to the attention of Jody Eaton. Please note somewhere that it is for the Eagle Costumes and make the checks payable to Eastwood High School. We and the students appreciate any help we can get to offset the costs!

Final Forms
Please make sure you and your student update Final Forms if you have not already done so! Final Forms will roll to the 2024 - 2025 School Year on June 10, 2024. You can begin to update your student's information any time after that! This is your opportunity to make sure coaches know your student is interested in a sport and to assure all emergency medical information is up to date.
So, why do our Penta students need to do this? For many reasons, the most important of which, is to assure that we have the most up-to-date contact information for you for both the school and transportation. We will be sending you things via the postal service and Final Forms throughout the school year and want to assure we have all the proper information. Being out of the building does not mean you are not still an Eagle! Also, if your student is in the building for any reason, then having emergency medical information is crucial, should something happen that would require it.
So, if you are among those who regularly get emails from Mrs. Jody Eaton regarding Final Forms, please go into Final Forms and assure that you and your student have completed and signed off on what needs to be done! You can also go to the school's website (www.eastwoodschools.org), click on the Parent tab at the top of the page and find a link to Final Forms there.
Thank you in advance for assure that this is completed!
Transportation
EASTWOOD TRANSPORTATION NOTE
Hello parents!
We are busy in the Transportation office working on the bus routes for the upcoming school year. We have new transportation forms, which are linked below. Please submit the applicable forms pertaining to your child's/children’s transportation as soon as possible. The earlier we have all of the students’ information in, the earlier we can complete routing for the upcoming year and get that information back out to you. Please note that if you have completed Final Forms, you still need to complete the appropriate Google Form. ALL Penta students must complete the Google Form below.
If your child is going to get on and off of the bus from your listed home address:
You do not need to file any forms. Your child will automatically be routed to and from your listed home address.
If your child requires an alternate address to be picked up or dropped off:
You will need to submit a new alternate transportation request form online before August 1st each year. If you used an alternate address last school year, you will need to submit a new request for this upcoming school year. At the end of each school year, ALL alternate addresses and exceptions are removed, and ALL students are automatically routed to and from school using their listed home address.
If your child will be driving to and from school:
Please submit a student driver form, indicating that your child will not require bus service. This form will remain intact each year or until you submit a status change form. It is very helpful if you let us know that your child is a student driver so that we do not route a bus to your residence.
If your child will be transported to school daily by a parent, guardian, family member or friend:
Please submit a parent transport form online. It is very helpful to let us know that your child is going to be transported to and from school by means other than bus service, so that we do not route a bus to your residence, also so that your child is not put on a bus at dismissal.
ALL students attending Penta:
Are required to submit a Penta transportation request form. This form will allow Penta students to select: if they will require bus service, if parents will transport, if they will be driving to Penta or to Eastwood Campus to catch the Penta shuttle. There is additional information available for Penta students by clicking here.
Open enrollment students:
If you are planning on using an existing bus stop, please submit an alternate transportation request form. If you are planning on transporting your child to school each day, please submit a parent transport form. If your child is going to drive to school each day, please submit a student driver form.
Non Public Students:
Non Public Bus Service Information & Links
There are links provided above in each category and also links with additional information provided in the 2023-24 Transportation Links for Eastwood Parents page. You can also find the link on the Eastwood Schools web page in the Transportation tab.
New bus route information will be available on August 10th. You can find the information on Infofinder-i. There is also a link to Infofinder-i on the Transportation Department page of the Eastwood website.
If you have any questions, or need assistance completing any of the online forms, please feel free to contact me. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the start of the school year!
Thank you and I hope you are all enjoying your summer,
Nick Hannan
Director of Transportation, Eastwood Schools
Senior Immunizations
Meningitis is an inflammation of the protective layer around the brain and spinal cord. This disease can be fatal or leave those who survive it with permanent disabilities. The meningococcal vaccine is the best way to avoid meningitis.
Section 3313.671 of the Ohio Revised Code states that students who do not provide documentation of this immunization are subject to exclusion from school.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding immunizations, please contact Dannelle Sutton, RN, School Nurse at dsutton@eastwoodschools.org or call the Ohio Department of Health Immunization Program hotline at 800-282-0546, or visit the ODH website.
Student drop off and Pick up
Morning Drop Off
The buses drop off high school students at the main entrance on the Luckey Rd. side of the building from 7:15 - 7:35.
Families that are dropping off students between 7:15 - 7:35 should use the Sugar Ridge Rd. entrance. We want to avoid cars and buses mixing together during drop off. We had a family pulled up next to a bus this morning and then backed up and did a five point turn to get out of the bus line up. It was not a safe situation for that driver, or staff and students arriving.
Pick Up
In the afternoon, all the buses are parked in the Sugar Ridge Rd. parking lot. Students being picked up by parents can/should be picked up in the Luckey Rd. parking lot.
Thank you for your cooperation in assuring both your student, your personal and our staff's safety.
Medication
Finals Forms has provided some confusion in regards to medication for our students. If your student will need to take medication at school, be it prescription or over the counter, you will need to print out the appropriate form on Final Forms, complete it and send it in to school. You will also need to provide a bottle of medication in its original container. We do not have medication (Tylenol, Advil, etc) to give to students.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the office and speak to the secretaries.
Free and Reduced Applications
Fees - IMPORTANT REMINDER
This is a policy that is set by the board and the secretaries will be adhering to it. If you have a balance, please make arrangements to pay the fees via PaySchoolCentral with a credit card, or in the office with exact cash or a check.
If you would like a copy of the policy, please contact the office and Mrs. Eaton or Mrs. Brown will be happy to provide it to you.
For our families of Seniors: It is also part of board policy that Seniors will not be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremonies if they have not met all of their obligations prior to the ceremony. This would include fees and community service. Please make sure all fees get paid and community service turned in well before graduation.
