The Social, Political and Economic History of Hoboken with Mr. Munoz at Hoboken HS
Mr. Munoz's Social, Political, and Economic History of Hoboken class recently explored the history of baseball and Hoboken's significant role in America's pastime. A highlight of that history was the 1988 Hoboken Ambassadors trip to the former Soviet Union. This group of Hoboken youth traveled to teach Russians about baseball and share their passion for the game. The Hoboken Ambassadors not only introduced the Soviets to America's pastime but also demonstrated how to play, conducting joint training sessions on everything from batting helmets to bunting, and played five exhibition games throughout the Soviet Union.
Our class had the unique opportunity to sit down for a Q&A session with two former players from that team: former Hoboken pitching standout Danny Ortiz and our very own Mr. Chipper Benway. It was an incredible experience to hear firsthand about this historic moment and the lasting impact it had on both countries.
Math Department at Hoboken HS
Math with Mrs. Perry at Hoboken HS
Algebra 2
After three weeks of NJGPA prep, students moved on to solving rational equations by applying strategies like finding common denominators and identifying extraneous solutions. They explored nth roots and radicals, building a strong foundation for simplifying complex expressions. The class progressed to rational exponents and their connection to radicals, practicing exponent rules and rationalizing denominators. Currently, students are graphing and solving radical equations.

Students are mastering trigonometric functions, starting with right triangles and expanding to all angles using the unit circle. They’ve applied the Law of Sines and Law of Cosines to solve oblique triangles and calculated area using both standard and Heron’s Formula. Now, they are analyzing graphs of sine, cosine, and tangent functions, focusing on amplitude, period, phase shift, and asymptotes to model real-world patterns.
