January 2023

Happy New Year, KISD! Feliz Día de los Reyes!
We are so excited to welcome back students and staff for the 2023 spring semester! We hope you and your students had a great holiday break and feel rejuvenated to start the 3rd nine weeks. Report cards will be coming home with students this week and will be mailed home by January 13, 2023.
Parents can easily check grades and attendance online by logging into Home Access Center or the Killeen ISD mobile app. If you need help logging in to HAC, click here. Did you know a student shall be permitted one opportunity to redo any assignment or retake any test for which the student received a failing grade? The student or parent must request the additional opportunity within ten days of the grade being posted in the grade book. (Campuses may outline additional and more specific criteria in their grading procedure.)
Parent and campus communication is the key to students learning to their maximum potential. When issues arise at school, following the appropriate path outlined, will help to expedite the resolution of school-related concerns. In almost all cases, personal communication with your child’s teacher usually clarifies things for both parties and results in a plan to meet your child’s needs.
January is School Board Appreciation Month. We are so grateful for our school board for their leadership, commitment to education, and the time they have each given to invest in KISD students and staff. A big THANK YOU to our School Board!
Looking ahead, the student transfer window will open online on February 1, 2023, for the next school year. Additionally, we are already planning a variety of summer learning opportunities for your child, more information to come soon.

What do teachers, parents, and families have in common? We want all children to learn to their maximum potential!
We encourage parents and families to be involved. With everyone working together, valuable information is shared to support successful learning experiences. Parent-teacher conferences are a great way to keep the conversations open.
What should I expect?
- Meaningful two-way conversations
- Emphasis on academic achievement
- Ways to support in-school learning
- Strategies that may support learning at home

Killeen Fire Chief Honors Saegert Elementary Heroes
One day last September late in the school day, a student at Saegert Elementary School experienced a critical medical condition and an entire community came to her aid.
On Friday, December 15, Killeen Fire Department Chief Jim Kubinski said that 25 school staff members played a pivotal role in saving the child.
The chief presented the Fire Chief’s Citizen Award to each of the staff members.
He awarded the citizen honors in the school gym as children in PE class watched and cheered.
The fire department’s top administrator also praised a group of emergency medical technicians and firefighters who answered the call that day.
The fire chief stood alongside Killeen ISD Superintendent John Craft and the fire department personnel as Kubinski called up each school employee honoree to receive a certificate and an honorary coin.
