National Book Festival This Weekend!
The virtual National Book Festival will run September 25 -27. Register to check out presentations, activities, and to visit "booths" hosted by each state in the Pavilion of States. This year the RI Center for the Book will be celebrating local author Padma Venkatraman and her recent novel The Bridge Home. You can find the 2020 great reads from all states and can view great reads author videos. Be sure to share Padma Venkatraman's video below!
Teen Summit: October 2
Join us for a daylong, virtual event focused on teen services. Featuring keynote speaker Adrienne Kisner, author of Dear Rachel Maddow, winner of a 2016 PEN New England Susan P Bloom Discovery Award and one of YALSA’s 2019 picks for Best Fiction for Young Adults, The Confusion of Laurel Graham and the recently published, Six Angry Girls. Nine different breakout sessions will be presented by New England Teen Librarians with topics ranging from books and reading, civic engagement, programming, teen volunteers, and more! Teen Summit 2020 is free and open to all library staff who work with teens, in any library type. All sessions will be recorded and accessible at the MLS Vimeo Teen Summit Showcase, with Closed Captioning available soon.

It's not too late to join a Project READY cohort! Space is still available in the following cohorts:
- Cohort 1: Tuesdays, 9:30am (5 spaces)
- Cohort 3: Thursdays, 9:30am (4spaces)
- Cohort 4: Thursdays, 3pm (3 spaces)

Mindfulness in Ordinary and Extraordinary Times for Library Staff Webinar Series
OLIS is offering a 3-week series of webinars called Mindfulness in Ordinary and Extraordinary Times for Library Staff biweekly beginning on Tuesday, September 29 through October 27 at 10:00 AM. The sessions will be presented by Dr. Richard Moniz, Director of Libraries at Horry-Georgetown Technical College and co-author of the book The Mindful Librarian. September is RI Heritage Month
In lieu of the live RI Heritage Fesitval festival this year, the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission is planning for a September 2020 RI Heritage Month. Every Saturday in September the Commission will host a virtual Facebook event that will feature “Heritage Highlights” from cultural performance groups, heritage museums, cultural organizations, hands-on activities like crafts, cooking, and more! A COVID-19 page and a Virtual Training page have been added to both the Children's Services Roundtable (CSRT) LibGuide and the Young Adult Roundtable (YART) LibGuide. These pages are still under construction, but the COVID-19 pages will include information and resources on topics that arise during the weekly chats and the Virtual Training pages feature learning opportunities specific to youth services.
