Girls' Youth Basketball Camp
Attached is an official invitation to our 4th Annual Reardan Girls' Youth Basketball Camp, which will be held on June 9-11 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Main Gym. I will also have some of these printed in both offices for anyone that needs a printed copy. Likewise, I will have my high school athletes work alongside the elementary teachers to find a time to promote this event. Last year, we had 64 athletes attend and my hope is to continue increasing numbers.
Please, fill out the registration form and send it to school with your daughter. Mrs. Hoffman (elementary office) and Mrs. Casselberry (high school office) will be collecting registration forms and payment.
If you have any questions, please reach out.

End-of-Year Update
As we approach the end of the school year, there's still plenty of important learning, celebrating, and growing left to do! These final weeks are filled with exciting events, assessments, and opportunities for your child to show all they’ve accomplished this year. To help students finish strong, we kindly ask for your support at home with a few key reminders:
The Power of a Good Night’s Sleep
A consistent bedtime routine is more important than ever. Late nights and irregular sleep can affect focus, behavior, and mood during the school day. Aim for 9–11 hours of sleep each night and try to keep bedtime and wake-up times consistent—even on weekends. A well-rested child is better able to learn, problem-solve, and enjoy their time at school!
Stick to a Steady Routine
Children thrive on structure. As tempting as it can be to relax routines near the end of the year, keeping a predictable morning and evening schedule helps students feel calm, focused, and ready for school each day.
A Few More Helpful Reminders:
Attendance matters: Every day counts! Please continue to prioritize school attendance unless your child is sick. These last weeks include assessments, projects, and classroom celebrations that your child won’t want to miss.
Check backpacks daily: Important notices, permission slips, and end-of-year information are coming home more frequently. A quick backpack check can keep you up to date.
Dress for the weather: As temperatures rise and activities move outdoors, help your child come to school prepared with appropriate clothing, sun protection, and a labeled reusable water bottle.
Thank you for being our partners in helping students finish the school year on a positive note. We’re so proud of all they’ve accomplished and grateful for your continued support!

Middle School Highlights
MIddle school is almost finished with our state testing! We have completed 8th grade science and ELA and will wrap up with math next week. I have been recovering from a broken wrist and am so grateful to Kristy Koch for leading the middle school through our spring assessments. She’s also taken the lead on feeding our students a fantastic breakfast on testing days. Our middle school is awesome because of fantastic caring teachers like Mrs. Koch. She will also be doing make-up testing for students who missed their tests.
As a reminder, MS students will do their math assessments on May 20 and 21. Eighth graders will head to Silverwood on Thursday, May 22nd. Elementary PE Teacher Brian Graham has stepped up to take the lead on this trip. Please refer to page one of the permission slip if you have questions, or email me: dewsum@reardansd.net
High School Parent Orientation is also on May 22nd at 5 pm in the HS library–Parents are strongly encouraged to attend this informative session to get an overview of High School expectations and requirements.
High School Highlights
It’s been a busy and exciting time at the high school!
As our softball and baseball seasons come to a close, we want to recognize our student-athletes and coaches for their dedication and hard work throughout the season. Great job, teams!
The Ag Department had a major milestone this week with the Grand Opening of the Springer Memorial Greenhouse—a beautiful and functional space that will serve our students for years to come. In addition, students in the Ag program completed the butchering of 18 meat chickens they raised themselves, gaining valuable hands-on experience in animal science and food processing.
Meanwhile, students in other classes have been working hard with state testing. We are incredibly proud of their effort, focus, and perseverance during this important time. Way to go!

Nutrition Services
A big THANK YOU to Farmer Fred for donating grain to this months Farm to School program.
Farmer Fred's generous grain donation is a beautiful example of how local farmers and schools can collaborate to support nutrition and community well-being. By supplying fresh, locally sourced grain, he's directly contributing to healthier meals for students and reinforcing the importance of agricultural sustainability.
The kitchen staff, in turn, took that raw ingredient and transformed it into homemade rolls—adding warmth and care to the lunch experience. Freshly baked bread carries a sense of tradition and craftsmanship, making a simple meal feel extra special. The Farm to School program not only brings nutritious food to students but also fosters a deeper connection between young learners and the land that sustains them.
This kind of collaboration strengthens local economies, supports farmers, and ensures that students have access to high-quality food. It’s a win for everyone—healthier meals, stronger community ties, and greater appreciation for where our food comes from.

Counseling Resources
The RISE Mentorship Program has seen tremendous growth over the past few months. Coordinators, Jason Anderson and Ashley Martin, are highly appreciative of the Reardan staff members who have volunteered their time connecting with students 1:1 to make this program a success in its first year. We currently have 16 active mentor-mentee pairs with a decent list of others interested in being a mentor next school year. Pictured here are some of those fantastic mentors with the coordinators on “Mentor Monday”!
Security Update
This week, Deputy Stein from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and Officer Bobby joined me in visiting Kindergarten and First Grade classrooms. We talked with the students about different types of law enforcement officers, traffic and road-crossing safety, the importance of wearing helmets, identifying trusted adults, how and when to use 911, and what to do if they ever get lost. We also wrapped up with a fun and engaging coloring activity!
