Summer Volunteer Opportunity for Teens!
Drillers! Check out this Summer Volunteer Opportunity for Students Ages 14+ at MARE Riding Center, a non-profit therapeutic horseback riding center located here in Bakersfield. MARE is currently welcoming student volunteers aged 14 and up to join them this summer for an enriching and hands-on opportunity to support individuals with special needs through equine-assisted services. This is a fantastic way for students to gain volunteer hours, build communication and leadership skills, and participate in a meaningful and impactful activity. No prior horse experience is necessary—they provide all the training! Library News
BHS Library Hours – Monday 7:45am-4:10pm, Tuesday – Thursday 7:45am-5:10pm, Friday 7:45am-4:10pm. Students can visit the library before school, during lunch, and after school. The weekly library calendar is posted on the library entrance doors.
Additional Resources
Canvas Virtual Library – All certificated staff, students, and parents with Canvas access can visit the Virtual Library. Here you can find so much library wonderfulness! Here are some highlighted resources to help you and your students.
Learning Ally – An Audiobook database that has over 80,000 human-read fiction, nonfiction, and textbook titles. You can listen to books on any digital device or download the free app on your phone.
Mackinvia – An electronic book collection with over 1,900 electronic books/audiobooks. You can read and listen to books on any digital device or download the free app on your phone. You can also access all our 34 district/school databases through Mackinvia.
ComicsPlus – A collection of over 27,000 Graphic Novels, Manga, and Comic Books. This collection is housed in Mackinvia (above) and accessible on any digital device or available through the Mackinvia app you can download on your phone.
Teaching Books – An ever-expanding database of digital resources about children’s and young adult books and their authors and illustrators. The resource collection includes author and illustrator interviews, video book trailers, audio book reading excerpts, book discussion guides, and much more. This is a free database provided by the Department of Education to all California students K-12th grades. Create your own account as an Educator or a Student to enhance your reading experience.

Attendance Policy
Student absences are required to be cleared within 72 hours. Communication with the Attendance Office is available in the following ways, listed from most preferred to least:

- Direct Lines: (these will be busy if they are on another line): 661-323-9015 and 661-324-9931
*Please always note your student’s name, their 6-digit UID #, parent/guardian name, a callback number, and the date and reason for the absence.
Due to security staffing and needs, we will not dismiss students or allow for parent pickup within 10 minutes of the end of the day.
