Last week
We had a fantastic time exploring new concepts and engaging in fun activities! The students showed great enthusiasm during our phonics lessons and enjoyed sharing their thoughts during reading time.
Next week
Phonics: This week we will read and write words with the long o sound spelled with the vowel teams oa, oe, and ow. We'll learn how the oa team can be found at the beginning or middle of a word, while the oe and ow teams will be found at the end of a one-syllable word.
Reading: We will begin Unit 7 - Statues and Monuments. In this informational text, we will focus on:
Print concepts: title, book cover, author
Text features: chapter title, bold words, maps, photographs
Comprehension strategies: ask and answer questions, use context clues, and utilize graphic features to gain information

Math: We completed Topic 5 and will begin Topic 6. In Topic 6, your child will collect, organize, represent, and interpret data. Many of the problems your child will solve will represent addition situations (total number of data points, how many in each category) and subtraction situations (how many more, how many fewer). Please see Topic 6 Family Engagement letter attached below. This is a great way to help your child extend their learning at home.
Things to remember
Please encourage your child to practice their spelling words at home!
Review the math concepts with your child to reinforce their understanding.
