Counseling Corner
Greetings,
7th and 8th grade Course Registration:
Current 6th and 7th grade students completed their Course Registration for next year, this week. Students submitted their requests via paper and also virtually through Infinite Campus on their iPads. For some students the process worked seamlessly and for others not so much. Students were told to put notes on their registration forms and reach out via email if they have existing questions about their requests.
9th Grade Course Registration:
On May 6th (one week from Tuesday) students will have an opportunity to select their classes in their ELA classes for 9th grade with a School Counselor from Central High School. Please be sure your 8th grade Otter has their iPad to begin the process of selecting their courses for High School. 8th grade Foundations Teachers have shared slides regarding the selection process and if your child has any questions or concerns about high school they can either reach out to Mr. Nigatu or email one of the Counselors at Central High School for more or additional information.
Rotary Award Winners:
8th grade students were nominated for a Rotary Award, given to an 8th grade Saint Paul Public School Middle School student who personifies or embodies one or more of the following traits:
Good attendance;
Significant Improvement in Attitude, Effort and Achievement;
Overcome a significant hardship;
Special effort towards supporting a fellow student;
Contributed to making this school a better place
There were several deserving students, but only five could be honored and recognized. These students have done great work and they will be publicly recognized during the 8th grade assembly (Q3-Q4) on Tuesday March 6th during 3rd hour Foundations. Those students are:
Oliver Craig
Khaliah Cyprian
Destiny Mathis
Raheem N’da
Mika Pereira
These students will receive a Rotary Award Certificate (Certificate of Merit), a Gift Card, a note in the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Hidden River will receive a Plaque with the students named engraved.
Congratulations!

Family Engagement - Keep Connected 360
Keep Connected Family Engagement Partnership with Search Institute and Change Inc.:

Keep Connected offers resources to families, including tips, ideas, activities and learning opportunities to support strong family relationships.
Family Talk Starters - This Week’s Focus: Encourage each other to stretch toward goals. This is a great way to CHALLENGE GROWTH in your family relationships.
When you have a few minutes, ask other family members a question or two. Enjoy the conversation!
- Which teacher, coach, mentor, or family member has motivated you to learn or grow? What did they do that was helpful to you?
- How do you know when to push someone to keep going and when to back off because it’s too much pressure? Can you think of examples?
- What is a goal you’ve successfully reached by working hard in the past? Who encouraged and supported you to reach that goal? What difference did their encouragement make?
