The number for Teachers on Call is 1.800.713.4439. Please program it into your phone. Call them if you have a last second sickness and it is too late to enter an absence into Frontline.
Waiting until I arrive to email me so I can enter it in, makes it so we won’t get a sub.
- Nurse Lisa's lunch break will be from 12:15-12:45 each day. Please make a note of it and do not send students to the nurse's office during that time unless it is an emergency.
- Keep sending Shawn pictures of things that happen each day. It can be as simple as learners reading silently, doing small groups, playing on the playground, ect. Pictures of happy kids doing school are a wonderful way for us to tell our story to our community. Keep em' comin!
- The doc center is requesting that you please return clips, rubber bands and cardboard in the gray tubs in the work room.

A Note About Halloween & Future Holidays
In many ways, Halloween "kicks off" the holiday season. The two months ahead are both magical and stressful for many of us. Navigating holidays has become a little tricky for schools and I want to make sure we are being thoughtful about our approach. Because I believe that "clear is kind" I wanted to share the following thoughts:
- Our school is a place where EVERYONE is made to feel like they belong. Be mindful of the fact that not all of our learners celebrate the same holidays or hold the same traditions and values. For some, the holiday season is a tough one, because they feel like they don't fit in. Prepare lessons, activities, decorations, etc. that are inclusive to all of our learners.
- Our school is a place of learning and our learners do best when their is predictability and calm. We have worked hard to establish routines that allow our learners to be successful. We can not allow holidays to disrupt this work we have done together. In December, things should look pretty much how they looked in November.
- Not everyone is looks forward to breaks. Expect some learners to be especially anxious, moody, or disregulated as we get closer to breaks. Show extra grace, patience, and emotional support when this happens. This is another reason why we should follow our predictable routines as much as possible.
- We all have A LOT going on outside of school. The weeks leading up to the holiday season are not only hard on our learners - but also on us. We have holiday shopping, travel arrangements, family planning, religious events, later nights and fun activities planned. All of this is on top of our already difficult jobs and busy lives. Be sure to take care of yourself, get rest, exercise, use school work time efficiently, and keep an eye on your colleagues at Riverview.
- We can "recognize" holidays but we should stop short of "celebrating" them with our learners. Learning about and recognizing holidays from around the world is a wonderful thing to do. Here is a brief slideshow that could be used that includes descriptions of some special holidays that our learners celebrate.
- The food policy is still in place. This may be harder to follow during the holiday season than at other parts of the year, but we need to maintain our approach to food in our classrooms. Click here if you need a refresher on the policy.
- Please reach out to me if you have questions, concerns, or thoughts about any of this. I trust that everyone on our team has good intentions and doing the best they can to make decisions that are in the best interests of ALL of our learners. If there are "gray" areas you want to talk through, my door is always open to you.
CARES Fun Run Fundraiser Updates
- We have met our goal!! Thank you to all the members of the Fun Run committee who organized everything and to all the teachers and staff who made this a priority in your classrooms and with your families. This money will support so much learning and make memorable experiences possible for our learners. Thank you!
- As of Sunday, Oct. 27 we have raised $34,500. We are close to our "Pie in the Sky" goal of $38,000! Keep encouraging your families to register and share! Remind them that the window to donate will close at 11:59 PM on Friday, Nov. 1.
- As of Sunday, Oct. 27, we have received donations from 46 different states (our best ever). If you know anyone from Louisianna, Vermont, West Virginia, or New Jersey let them know about this opportunity.
- Ms. Schultz/Ms. Bakken's classroom continues to lead the way with over $2700 raised. Kudos to your students!! Ms. Foster, Ms. Claycomb, Ms. Eschle, and Ms. Lukasezck are close behind!
- We will be camping on the roof on Monday, Nov. 4 (Tuesday, Nov. 5 is a CAREIALL day with no students). If you are interested in joining in the fun, click here and add your name!

3. Claycomb: $1965
4. Eschle: $1905

Last year we only had 8 classrooms reach their goal…this year 15/22 have reached and the rest are so close to follow! By the end of the week, potential for 2 more to reach as well!
HERE IS WHERE THE BIG PUSH COMES IN AND WE NEED CLASSROOM TEACHERS TO HELP THAT PUSH. IS THERE ONE MORE INCENTIVE YOU CAN THROW IN TO MOTIVATE YOUR STUDENTS TO REACH THAT FINAL GOAL OR AN ATTAINABLE GOAL BY FRIDAY? If you know the overall classroom goal is too far, what else can we do to increase last ditch motivation? EXAMPLE: MULTIAGE originally had the collective goal as $4000 and they surpassed. They up’ed the ante by throwing out a new incentive that Mrs. Hinz would get pie’d in the face if they reached $5000 as a group! AND THEY DID—good luck Tracy!
**We still want to PIE PECK IN THE FACE….we are within $3 roughly!! Details for camping on the roof to come!

Would You Like a DARTS Learning Buddy To Volunteer In Your Classroom?
The DARTS Learning Buddies program leader, Annie Lesnar reached out to me to let me know that they currently have two new Learning Buddies volunteers who would love to volunteer in classrooms at Riverview!. As of right now, we have one Learning Buddies volunteer at Riverview, Patsy Berger, who volunteers her time in Kindergarten classrooms each Tuesday.
If any teachers are interested in some additional volunteer help this year, please reach out to Annie directly (651-234-2227 or annie.lesnar@darts1.org). All our DARTS Learning Buddies volunteers go through a best practices training. Learning Buddies do many things to help in schools, including reading with students, working with small groups, supporting math, science, or literacy skills, all while helping to support a positive classroom and school environment for students and teachers.
Please Make Yourselves Familiar With the District Donations Procedures
If you are ever approached by an organization or individual about donating money or items, please reference these donations procedures. Establishing procedures to accept donations creates a consistent and effective framework that supports district staff to engage with potential donors responsibly while ensuring donations support the district’s strategic framework, do not violate existing policies, and are tracked throughout the system.Reach out to Shawn if you have any questions.
