A MESSAGE FROM DR. ELLISON
Dear Glen Grove Families,
It has been an absolute pleasure having your children in our building. They are doing a great job building community, learning routines, and jumping into our academic content. I am so proud of them. We are definitely in the rhythm of school!
Our revised D34 strategic plan and our Glen Grove school improvement plan have a strong focus on belonging and inclusivity. Our teachers have worked hard to build a strong community in the classroom and school to launch the year. We want every child to feel seen, heard, and valued in our school. Throughout the year, you will hear more about our work in social-emotional learning and community building. This is an important foundation for a healthy school community and we encourage you to reach out if your child needs support feeling a sense of community and belonging. We want every single child to feel positively connected to our school.
We wanted to remind everyone about our policies regarding phones and smartwatches. If a child has a phone, it must be in their backpack throughout the entire day. It should not be utilized at school. Smartwatches should also not be used at school for games, texts, or calls. Please make sure that your child’s watch is in school mode and that you are not texting or calling throughout the school day. This can be distracting and disruptive to learning. If your child is using their devices inappropriately, we will collect it until the end of the day. Thank you for supporting these expectations and helping to maintain a distraction-free learning environment for all.
I value your partnership and participation in your child’s education. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns. We are here to work together to make Glen Grove a great place to learn and grow for your child.
Kate Ellison

PICTURE DAY - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH
STUDENT DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURES
We appreciate your cooperation in making Glen Grove a safe and welcoming place for our students during entry and exit. Our staff will be out welcoming and helping our families understand these procedures during the start and end of the school day.
Morning Drop-Off: Car drop-offs occur in the West parking lot and all car lane students enter door B. Students should exit the cars in the designated area close to door B. Please do not let your child out of the car before the designated exit area as it is unsafe and slows down the car lane. We will open the doors of the school at 7:30.
Afternoon Pick-Up: Car pick-ups will also occur at Door B. Please enter the line in the West parking lot. We will have students enter cars from the designated area close to Door B. Our staff will be there supporting students and drivers to ensure both safety and efficiency.
We greatly appreciate your cooperation in making our school a safe and welcoming place for everyone. A safe and efficient car lane requires everyone to work together.
STUDENT MATERIALS & LUNCH DROP OFF DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
We will continue with the procedures put in place last year as a result of improvements made to all D34 buildings. The outer door to the vestibule will be locked throughout the school day. While this is great for safety and security, it will make it a bit more challenging to receive forgotten student items during the school day. While we understand that students forget things from time to time, we also want to minimize classroom disruptions and traffic in the office.
If you are dropping something off for your child in the middle of the school day, please leave it labeled on the cart in the vestibule. Our office staff will do a morning and afternoon check of the cart and notify teachers. We will also do a student delivery of materials before lunchtime to ensure everyone has what they need for lunch and recess.
ILLINOIS FLAG DRAWING CONTEST
CHORUS SIGN-UP DUE SEPTEMBER 10TH!
ALL ABOUT CHORUS
My name is Erin Forrest and I am the music teacher at Glen Grove. I am looking forward to a wonderful year in chorus! I have been teaching general music and chorus for 13 years and I am excited to provide an extracurricular singing experience for Glen Grove students. In chorus, we will focus on healthy vocal tone, develop part independence, improve our music reading skills, and foster a love of music through diverse repertoire. Please note that 3rd grade chorus enrollment is limited to 65 students.
NEWS FROM THE LRC
Welcome Back Gators!
I am thrilled to be starting my 13th year as the LRC Director at Glen Grove. Mrs. Pam Duby is also here for her sixth year, as the LRC Associate, together we are here to help your children find books to enjoy.
How The Library Works
At GG, all students are able to check out as many books as they need, that means each student decides for themselves. If a student forgets to return a book or books on time, we still allow them to check out. If a student creates a pattern of behavior by not returning books, then we will have a talk on how to help them manage their checkouts. We believe it is important for intermediate students to take on the responsibility of managing their own library books that includes renewing and holding titles. Ask your children to show you their Destiny account. There you will find their checkouts, holds and favorites. When students take ownership of their reading life, it empowers them to be architects of their own learning.
Lost or Damaged Books
As a reminder the district charges a replacement cost of lost library books on students’ PowerSchool accounts twice a year (January and June). After January, if a lost book is found before the end of the school year, you can request a refund from the business office. During the school year, if your child has damaged a book (water damage, pet incident, etc.), please reach out to pduby@glenview34.org We can have the replacement cost added to your child’s PowerSchool account.

SCIENCE NEWS
Welcome back to science, Gator families!
All classrooms had the opportunity over the last week to get a (re?)introduction to our district design thinking process through hour-long, hands-on group challenges. Please ask your Gator what challenge they were able to participate in. It might have been building bridges to keep Baby Yoda safe, silently stack cups with rubber bands and yard, getting a clay boat to float, or collaboratively redesigning bubble wands for the D34 Bubble Factory.
Our 4th grade Gators are starting off the school year investigating the Earth sciences as they begin their 1st science unit. Throughout this next month they will be investigating both large and small changes of Earth's crust from plate tectonics to shoreline erosion. Our hands will be dirty, but our minds will be full of science. :) Stay tuned for more!
