Notes from the Principal
There are times in the school year when there is so much going on with community activities. Right after the Fun Run, we had Fire Safety Workshops, High School students volunteering in our gardens and our favorite director, Don Wright, come and spoke to the 4th & 5th graders about our upcoming auditions for Peter Pan.
Coming up in the next few weeks, keep your eye out for:
- Peter Pan Auditions
- International Night
- Possible MPV Presentation at Orchard. MPV (Master Planning & Visioning) is a look at the plans for the construction of a new Middle & High School.
I hope you will stay tuned and check in with the Core and emails to keep you updated.
We continue to share our concerns about parents transporting children, as we see children not wearing seat belts as well as parents parking in handicap spaces. These spaces are not available without the placard, even for a quick student drop-off. Our SRO (Student Resource Officer), Brianne Williamson, has included a letter below to explain our concerns and action steps.
I am at a conference next week. Joe O'Brien will be my sub. Joe is a retired principal who served at a number of schools including Rick Marcotte Central School and Tuttle Middle School. I am really happy he can join Orchard School while I am away.
Have a terrific weekend, take some time to read with your child.

A Letter from our School Resource Officer
Dear Orchard Parents,
As the School Resource Officer, kids’ safety is my primary focus. It has come to my attention from multiple complaints that people are seeing kids not properly restrained while cars are moving. This has been seen during drop off and pick up times. Vermont Law (T23 VSA 1258 -Child Restraint Systems- persons under age 18) states that no person shall operate a motor vehicle, other than a school bus, on a public highway unless every occupant under age 18 is properly restrained in a federally-approved child passenger restraining system (rear-facing seat/car seat/booster seat) or a federally-approved safety belt.
This means while the vehicle is moving, your kids need to be belted in. If your kid is undoing their belt prior to you parking the car, you need to tell them to wait until the car comes to a complete stop. If you are moving your car before your kids (s) is/are belted in, you need to wait until they are ready. I am sharing this with you as responsible parents. Consider this a friendly reminder. Police will be enforcing this at school. 1st Violation is $25 fine, 2nd Violation is $50 fine, 3rd or subsequent Violation is $100 fine. If you have any questions/concerns you can reach out to me at bwilliamson@sbschools.net.
Sincerely,
Officer Bri
