Morning and Afternoon Drop-off
**Our morning drop-off line is much longer this year. Please pull all the way up and use the ENTIRE sidewalk.
Please teach your child how to unbuckle their seat belt or safety restraint by themselves. Parents should not be exiting their car in the car line as this will slow down the drop-off line for everyone! If you think your child may have trouble, please practice! They will eventually learn how to do it!
Classroom instruction begins promptly at 7:30am each morning. Students should be seated in their seats and ready to learn by this time. Staff on duty will close the front doors and the bell will ring at 7:30am. After 7:30am, your child is considered tardy and you will need to sign them into school in the main office.
In the afternoon, please make sure you are here by 2:30pm to pick up your child. Our pick-up line will start moving faster as our younger students get used to our dismissal procedures. Thank you!

Safety Drills
At Socastee Elementary, your child’s safety is our top priority. In order to ensure that all of our staff and students comfortably know what to do during an emergency, we practice a variety of safety drills. Additionally, our school has a safety team that reviews the efficiency of our drills.
Drills that we practice throughout the year include:
Fire Drill- Fire drills are conducted monthly. Students practice evacuating the building quickly and safely. Each classroom has a designated evacuation location. Since we have a two story building, additional safety procedures are created for students or staff who need support going down stairs during a fire drill.
Tornado Drill- When a tornado warning is put in place for our school, students and staff are relocated to the interior of our first floor until the warning is lifted. This is practiced during a statewide drill in March, as well as throughout the year.
Earthquake Drill- The “Great Shakeout” drill is practiced every October. Students and staff practice these three steps: drop, cover, and hold on until the shaking stops.
Secure Drill- Secure is called when there is something potentially dangerous outside of the building. Students and staff are brought into the building and exterior doors remain locked.
Lockdown Drill- A Lockdown is called when there is something potentially dangerous inside of the building. Students and staff are trained to enter or remain in a room that can be locked, and maintain silence.
Reunification Drill- In the event of an emergency that does not allow us to dismiss normally, our staff practices where we would go to keep our students safe and how we would ensure that they were reunified with an approved adult. Please be sure that your child’s emergency contacts are updated in PowerSchool. Students can only be released to guardians and emergency contacts.
Message from the Nurse
Meet Nurse Rhona and Nurse Liz! They are seasoned Registered Nurses who will be joining our shark family full time for the 2024-2025 school year. They are so excited and looking forward to working with all of you to keep our little sharks healthy and safe. As a reminder, parents/guardians must drop off medications with either the prescription medication form signed by the doctor or the non-prescription medication form signed by the parent or guardian, no student is permitted to carry medication on them to or from school unless the correct papers have been signed and submitted to the health office. These health forms are also available in the health office. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Free Breakfast & Lunch:
CEP Breakfast/Lunch Program:
We are excited to announce HCS is a CEP District, offering free meals for all students! All students in Horry County Schools will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2024-2025 school year as part of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program.

Lunch Visitors:
Unfortunately, due to our growing student enrollment, we will be unable to accommodate lunch visitors this year. There will be special events and days throughout the school year for parents to come eat lunch with their children. These days will be announced ahead of time so you have time to make arrangements. We appreciate your understanding.
Be a part of the SES School Improvement Council!
The School Improvement Council (SIC) serves as an advisory committee to a school's principal and faculty. Unlike PTAs and other voluntary school organizations, councils are mandated by law to exist in every public school in South Carolina. SIC's play a key role in the education of our state's children, bringing together parents, educators, and community stakeholders to collaborate on the improvement of their local school.
Please nominate a parent who you think would be a good candidate to represent the parents on the SIC committee. Here is a link to the Google Form.
**Those that accept a nomination will be asked to write a brief description of themselves and what their service on the council will bring to Socastee Elementary School. You will also have a photo taken to go with the description on the final ballots.
