January News
Principal's Update
Dear NBC Parents,
I hope this message finds you well and that you and your family had a joyful and restful holiday break. As we settle back into our routines, I encourage you to take a moment to review your child’s current grades and talk with them about their progress as we approach the end of the semester on Friday, January 17th. This is a crucial time for students to stay focused and finish the semester strong. Additionally, please be sure to read this month’s newsletter, which includes several important dates and events coming up that you won’t want to miss. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education, and I wish you all the best as we begin this new year together.
As always, if you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at 231-894-5617 or by email at perreaultj@mapsk12.org

6th Grade Choir
Parents,
I’m writing to introduce myself and share a little bit about myself and the choir program here at NBC.
My name is Scott Emelander and this is my 4th year teaching in Montague. I feel strongly that singing connects us like few things can, and I’m thrilled that Montague Public Schools continues to invest in their choral program.
Choral music helps develop strong singers, musicians, students and citizens alike. We work daily on problem solving, critical thinking and emotional growth through the choral curriculum. We of course learn all about how music is made, how it works, and how to strengthen our individual voices, all while working together as a team to produce the final product. Did I mention we have a ton of fun? Seriously. Just ask…
Administration and I are looking to grow our 6th grade choir program this semester. If your child is interested in music, loves to sing, or just wants to try something new, we’d love to have them sign up. Choir is a great place to belong, and we’d love to have your child be a part of something special. Please contact me with any questions you may have.

If your 6th grader is interested in joining choir for the second semester, please have them sign up in the office.
Upcoming Important Dates
- January 16th & January 17th are Half Days of School- Students will be released at 11:10am.
- No School on Monday, January 20th for Teacher Professional Development.
- NWEA Testing on Tuesday, January 28th and Thursday, January 30th.
A friendly reminder from the NBC office staff
If you plan on picking your student up early for some reason and know ahead of time, please send your student with a note that morning and we will get them a pass to leave class and meet you at the entrance of the school for their pick up time. This decreases wait time and class interruptions.
PLEASE if your student is not going to be in school or is sick, call the office and let us know why they will not be in school. This way we can mark them with an excused absence instead of an unexcused absence. According to the NBC Middle School Handbook, parents must provide an explanation for their child's absence by no later than 10:00 am on the day of the absence or by the following day.
If we DO NOT answer the phone as we are busy with students or on another line, PLEASE leave a message for us, we will get it taken care of and/or call you back if need be as soon as we are available.
Thank you parents,
-Mrs. Halverson & Mrs. Kraus
