Mar Vista Parent Newsletter
Week of April 12, 2021
Dear Families,
This past week we welcomed back our TK-1st graders and we couldn't be happier with how things went! The students did a great job bringing their lanyards and water bottles and being ready for the check in and screening process! Yes, last Tuesday took a little longer to get through the drop off line, but that certainly improved as the days went on. Kudos to the parents for helping with this process! I've included a few photos below of students on their first day. They were awesome and we are so proud of them and happy to have them back!
Next week, we'll bring our 2nd-6th graders back for their first week in person, so I do expect some delays on Tuesday again. There are no early drop offs, so please be prepared if there is a bit of a wait. Students will be able to begin checking in between 12:20 and 12:25 and instruction begins at 12:35.
This is information sent previously for your reference:
On Friday, March 26th, I sent out a video about our school's plan for arrival and dismissal, as well as the process for staying safe while on campus. Please find the links to the two resources here:
Important: Lanyards with student screening badges will be available at pick up on Monday at the distribution times. These badges are to be worn to and from school every day Tuesday-Friday.
Also, by now you should have received a letter with your child's in-person learning schedule. It would have stated Cohort 1 or 2 OR Cohort 1 & 2. If the latter, your child is able to attend in person on all four days, Tuesday through Friday. If you have any questions, please call us in the office at (831) 761-6177.
For more information about your child's daily schedule and curriculum, please contact his or her teacher. We are so excited to see those smiling faces back on campus and are looking forward to an amazing end of the school year!!
Thank you,

Mr. J's Academic Coordinator Update
Hi Families,
First off, I have to say how excited I am to see the rest of the students back in person this week! Please make sure your child has their ID badge ready, around their neck, when they arrive at school each day.
We just got the news that the annual state assessment, referred to as the SBAC, will not need to be administered this year. This will allow teachers more time to focus on teaching the standards. We will continue using our MAP assessment data to monitor progress and to support student needs. The third administration of this assessment for the year will take place in May.
Thank you to everyone that has sent in pictures for the spirit days! This is one way we are trying to maintain connection and community, so it is appreciated. This week is “masktastic” week. Students can send in a picture with their favorite covid mask and send it in to be featured on the Mar Vista News.
Students will be continuing unit 6 or starting unit 7 in our language arts curriculum, Benchmark, this week.
Danny
Congratulations to our Student of the Year - Harper King!
We couldn't be prouder of our students for their strength and resilience during the many challenges over the past year. This year several of our students really stood out and we are delighted to name Harper King as our 20-21 Mar Vista Student of the Year!! Congratulation to Harper! Please read on to learn more about this outstanding student!
Challenging is an understatement for the school year that we are all experiencing, however, for Harper King, these challenges have brought out the best in him. Harper has a heart of gold. He is encouraging and supportive, always inspiring everyone to give their best, which has contributed greatly to our tight-knit and positive online classroom environment. Not only has Harper risen to the occasion with his influential citizenship, he has also made extremely impressive academic growth thanks to his unwavering perseverance and dedication. Thank you, Harper, for showing us how to not only overcome challenges, but how to learn and grow from them. You are an inspiration.
