This Week's Focus: Student Success Skills
August 15, 2024
Dear Parents,
This week of Student Success Skills lessons will focus on Learning Skills. Students learn to various ways to organize note-taking and balance deadlines.
From ReThinkEd: “Recent developments in neuroscience have determined that the human brain is flexible and capable of making new connections and pathways. Understanding how the brain processes information can help students feel a sense of agency over their learning and choose strategies that help them learn. Teachers can empower students to feel a sense of agency over their learning by using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies to create differentiated options for engagement, representation, and action and expression. In these lessons students practice strategies to understand how they learn in order to meet their learning goals.”
The literature for the lesson can be found here: Grade 9 Grade 10 Grade 11 Grade 12
Have a fantastic week! Let your student know you are part of their support system!
Thank you for your support!

We understand that your child's security is of utmost importance to you, and we want to assure you that we are committed to providing a safe learning environment. To ensure preparedness in the event of an emergency, we have conducted safety drills over the past two weeks. These drills are designed to familiarize students and staff with the procedures to follow in various situations, including fire, severe weather, lockdowns, and other emergencies.
What You Should Know
- Types of Drills: We conduct a variety of drills to cover different scenarios, such as fire drills, lockdown drills, and evacuation procedures. Each drill is carefully planned to minimize disruption while ensuring that students understand what to do in an actual emergency.

We ask that you keep your contact information up to date with the school to ensure you receive timely notifications. Reassurance for Students: We understand that drills can be unsettling for some students. Our staff is trained to handle these situations with care, providing clear instructions and reassurance. We encourage you to talk to your child about the importance of these drills in keeping everyone safe.
- Parental Role: Your support is crucial. Please talk to your child about the importance of following safety protocols and listening to their teachers during drills. It is imperative that all students are under supervision while on campus. Compliance with the operating hours by both students and parents is paramount.
- Early morning meetings can be arranged by teachers and club sponsors for approved students or groups to arrive early. Entry before regular hours is coordinated by the respective teacher or faculty club sponsor. The front office does not oversee or authorize early arrivals. It is essential to note that students must have permission from their assigned teacher or faculty sponsor before entering the building ahead of schedule.
- Car Pool Lane Entry/Departure: Safety stands as our foremost concern. Our objective is for all students to reach school punctually. While recognizing individual urgencies, we aim to set and uphold a standard of promptness for all, serving as role models for our students. Roswell High School Safety Plans
School safety at Roswell High School is of paramount importance as it directly affects the well-being and overall development of students, teachers, and staff. Ensuring a safe learning environment is essential for creating a conducive atmosphere for education, growth, and personal development. Here are some key reasons highlighting the importance of school safety:
- Physical and Emotional Well-being: A safe school environment protects students, teachers, and staff from physical harm, reducing the likelihood of accidents, injuries, or violent incidents. Feeling safe emotionally is equally vital, as students who feel secure are more likely to engage in learning and express themselves without fear.
- Learning and Academic Success: When students and educators are not preoccupied with concerns about safety, they can focus more effectively on teaching and learning. A secure environment fosters better concentration, participation, and engagement, leading to improved academic outcomes.
- Positive School Climate: Safety contributes to the creation of a positive school climate where students feel respected, valued, and supported. Such an atmosphere encourages healthy relationships, open communication, and collaboration among students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
- Preventing Bullying and Harassment: An emphasis on school safety includes addressing issues like bullying, harassment, and discrimination. Implementing anti-bullying programs and strategies helps cultivate a culture of respect and tolerance, reducing negative behaviors that can harm students' mental and emotional well-being.
- Parental Confidence: Parents and guardians are more likely to entrust their children to an educational institution that prioritizes safety. Knowing that their children are in a secure environment gives parents peace of mind and confidence in the school's ability to protect their children.
In conclusion, school safety is a multifaceted concept that goes beyond physical security. It encompasses emotional well-being, academic success, positive relationships, and preparedness for emergencies. Prioritizing school safety creates an environment where students can thrive, educators can excel, and the entire school community can flourish.
