A Message From Mrs. Penick
November is my favorite time of year. A time that reminds me that I have a lot to be thankful for. I am especially thankful for the opportunity to get to come to a place of work that feels like a home. The devoted staff, the respectful students, and the supportive parents make this school a very special place to spend time in. My favorite day in November at SHMS is when we transform the cafe into a memorable Thanksgiving dining experience during our student lunch shifts. We decorate in a harvest theme, play background music, and display our fireplaces on the screens. We serve them on that day because they are so deserving of that, and we want them to begin their Thanksgiving break knowing we love them!
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have a question, concern, or a compliment. 😊
Thank you for your support and for sharing your child with us!

Accelerated Reader
We are so proud of all of the students who met the AR goal for the first nine weeks! Congratulations to Destination Honesty for having the largest percentage of students to meet the AR goal for the first nine weeks with 93%. During the second nine weeks, students will read at least two AR books - 1 fiction and 1 nonfiction - and earn a passing score on the quiz for each book. Keep reading Rebels!
Instructional Coach
Dear Parents,
With the 2nd 9-weeks in full swing, I would like to share some tips on how to help your child succeed in their classes.
First and foremost, encourage your child to attend school regularly and be on time. Consistent attendance is essential to keeping up with classwork and avoiding falling behind. Additionally, make sure your child is well-rested and has a healthy breakfast before coming to school or at school (It's free!). This will help them stay focused and alert throughout the day.
Lastly, communicate regularly with your child's teachers. Reach out to teachers if you have concerns or questions about your child's progress. Building a positive relationship with your child's teachers can go a long way in supporting their success.
Thank you for your continued support, and please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Notes from the Clinic
Hello from the Clinic,
Here are some reminders to refer to if you are unsure whether a student should come to school:
Students should not come to school if they have had a temperature of 100.5 degrees or higher in the last 24 hours, without the use of medicine. It is not appropriate to give your student Tylenol when they have a fever and then send them to school. While it may ease their symptoms, they are still contagious.
Fall is prime time for allergy sufferers who are sensitive to ragweed and mold. If your student plays an outdoor sport and has allergies, they may need a daily dose of antihistamine. For ear congestion, a decongestant will help keep the ears clear. Please check with your doctor about the best medicine for your student.
All daily medicines should be brought in by parents or guardians. If your student carries an inhaler or an EpiPen, please return the care plans and medicine forms that were sent home as soon as possible.
Good nutrition, physical activity, and sleep are important for keeping us all healthy.
As always, washing your hands is the best prevention!
