Attendance Matters!
GCS District Goal: All students will attend 94% days of school. This is 10 or fewer absences (total excused and unexcused) by the end of the school year. We know that students demonstrate better academic performance when they attend school consistently.
As of 3/13/24 (127 days of school):
- 657 students (72%) had 10 or fewer absences
- 30 students (3%) had NO ABSENCES!
- 258 students (28%) have more than 10 absences
If you have concerns about your child's attendance or would like support in decreasing his/her absences, please contact Mr. Sheets or your child's school counselor.
End of Year Reward Trips!
Qualifying 7th graders will have the opportunity to go to Deep River Water Park on June 13th.
Qualifying 8th graders will be able to go to Cedar Point on June 11th.
Students must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for these trips. All students were given a fresh start after hearing about the criteria. For 7th graders, the "count" starts on Monday, September 25. For 8th graders, the "count" starts on Monday, October 2nd. Talk with your child about monitoring his/her attendance and behavior to meet this goal!
- Six or fewer absences (excused and unexcused absences count)
- Thirty or fewer tardies to class
- One or less referral (excluding major referrals)
Administrators will make the final decision about eligibility for any exceptional cases.
After-School Events
Also, please make sure you have a plan for your child to be picked up within10 minutes of the end of the event. Students should be aware of ride arrangements prior to attending events.
Staff members running these events have other responsibilities and families waiting at home for them, and we appreciate your help with this. Students who are consistently picked up late from events may be asked not to attend these events anymore.
