Navy National Defense Cadet Corps (NNDCC)
We are excited to announce the launch of the Navy National Defense Cadet Corps (NNDCC) program at Marion L. Steele! This new initiative offers students an opportunity to build leadership skills, learn about maritime careers, and develop a strong sense of discipline and responsibility.
The NNDCC program is designed to promote citizenship, service to the nation, and personal growth. Cadets will engage in various activities, including physical training, academic studies, and team-building exercises. They'll also get to participate in drills, ceremonies, and even community service projects, fostering teamwork and pride.
Our inaugural class of 43 cadets has been working hard since the end of last year to acquire inventory, remodel spaces, and learn basic military drill. We are happy to announce that our cadets will be presenting the colors at this week’s homecoming game and future Steele events going forward. We look forward to building a solid, rewarding program for our students and community!

On Wednesday, October 9th all 9th, 10th and 11th grade students will be taking the PSAT. The test is digital and all students must make sure they arrive at school with their chromebooks fully charged. Backup chromebooks will not be provided. Students will also need to bring their calculator for the math section of the test. The test will end at approximately 11:30am - 12:00pm and students will be dismissed for the day once they are done testing. Students testing with accommodations may take longer to test and will not be allowed to leave early. Seniors do not have school on this day. Please contact your student's counselor with any questions.
Scores for the PSAT will be available in December and students will access their scores through their Collegeboard account. If your student doesn't have a collegeboard account, they will need to create one at https://www.collegeboard.org/
Students can use KHAN academy to prepare for the PSAT. They can create an account at https://www.khanacademy.org/ and will be prompted to link their collegeboard account with their KHAN academy account for specialized test preparation.

Department Updates: Math Department
The Steele Math Department is off to another solid start to a school year. Teachers used Restart Readiness to assess student knowledge to start the year to help guide instruction. It will be used as the year progresses to monitor student growth.
We offer eight different subjects and many of those offer variations of regular, honors, AP, co-taught and CCP (College Credit Plus).
Math Lab is available after school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:50-3:50. With less than three weeks left in the nine weeks, it would be a great place to get some extra help for a struggling student.
As we are getting closer to the end of the nine weeks, please keep an eye on your child's grades. Reach out and schedule a conference with a teacher (Conferences are Oct. 10th from 3:00-9:00) if you have any questions or concerns.

Financial Aid Night – October 10th, 6 PM at Marion L. Steele High School (CLC Presentation Area)
Understanding the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is crucial for securing financial aid, scholarships, and merit awards. Cleveland State University will guide us through the FAFSA application form & process, providing valuable tips and guidance. We encourage senior parents and students to attend this session. If you plan to attend these sessions please complete the following Google form: https://forms.gle/p1E7UunJY29o6v88A
Fall College Representative Visits at Steele
Every fall, Steele offers juniors and seniors with a valuable opportunity to attend college representative visits. These 30-minute sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays in our Steele Presentation area, typically at 9:15 am. During these sessions, admissions representatives from various colleges stop in to give an overview of their institutions. They provide detailed information about admissions processes, scholarships, and important deadlines.
This is a great chance for juniors to learn about different colleges and universities and for seniors to ask any questions they might have about the admissions process, majors, scholarships, etc. Students can register for these visits through their SchoolLinks account, which is accessible via their Amherst Launchpad/Classlink login. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Cooney.
