A Message From Your Principal
Greetings, Eames Way Families,
Thank you for another incredible week! We learned about democracy and elections and had a few special veterans visit us as we reflected on the significance of Veterans Day. The fourth grade learned about energy and resources at an Enrichment, and I had the joy of recognizing more student leaders for their excellence in demonstrating the October Theme of the Month: Respect! We had two more wonderful journal submissions from our rising student journalists, and you should see the Magnificent Things our first graders made out of recyclable items! We would also like to thank all of our families who were able to join us for First Trimester Conferences this week -- Your partnership and support are always appreciated!
As we head into the long weekend, I'd like to share that we will be continuing our "Lunches Around The World" this school year -- And we'd love to have you join us! For those families who may be new to EWS, our "Lunches Around the World" are an opportunity for our families to share a simple presentation in our Dining Room during lunchtime about their own cultures, traditions, music, art, geography, sports, and holidays -- all while students are enjoying their lunches! This practice has become something all of our students thoroughly enjoy and look forward to, and we have lunch just about every day! Last year we learned about Chile, Ghana, Brazil, Greece, Mexico, and Lebanon -- and your kids are eager to learn more about other countries and cultures in the world! If you're interested in presenting at one of our lunches, please email me at kbishop@mpsd.org and I'll be more than happy to help you create a presentation and walk you through the experience!
Lastly, thank you to all of our veterans for their service this Veterans Day weekend, especially those in our Eames Way School Community. We hope that everyone has a great weekend and we look forward to more learning and fun with your children next week!
Warm regards,
Ms. Bishop
Principal

INTRODUCING: EWS STUDENT JOURNALISTS!
In our efforts to increase opportunities for student voice at Eames Way School, we have enlisted the writing talents of our 4th and 5th graders to create original articles for our weekly newsletter publications! This opportunity is on a voluntary basis from students and a great way for them to share their experiences at EWS in a unique way. Thank you to this week's student journalists, Joshua Monahan (grade 4) and Grace Stewart (grade 5), for going above and beyond to create and submit this week's publication!
"Interview With Ms. Bishop" by Grace Stewart, Grade 5
Ms. Bishop grew up in Marblehead MA. She is one of five kids, and the only one who became an educator. Her parents were educators. Her father was her middle school principal and she said that it was fun but sometimes awkward! She wanted to be a doctor growing up. But in her later life, she lived and went to school in France and taught English. The school she taught at was Lycée Fénelon Sainte-Marie in Paris and it was the first school she ever taught at.
Ms. Bishop grew to love teaching and all the kids in France convinced her to teach, so she called her parents and started to teach in Massachusetts. The kids in France also taught her how to be a fun teacher. She loves kids and her favorite thing about being a principal is that she does not have to have a class for a year and then let them go, she can watch all the kids grow from start to finish throughout their years in a school.
If she were to advise a student she would say “If you work hard enough, you can do anything.” Ms. Bishop loves teaching at Eames Way School because everyone is happy and loves what they do. She says: “I don’t feel like I’m coming to work every day. I feel like I’m just coming to have fun and spend time with the people I care about.” She loves teaching because it helps every other job. She has been teaching since she was twenty years old. So she has been teaching for seventeen years. She loves kids so much and she says “Kids are professionals at having fun.” Ms. Bishop says it’s important for kids to “Be happy and confident.” If she could advise a fellow teacher she would tell them “Be happy everyday and find joy in working with our students.”
Ms. Bishop was inspired to teach by her students in France and by her parents who were both educators. She loved kids and even before she taught, she was a counselor for kids at a camp. She loves kids and she loves to work with them to this day. And she will always love to so the children at EWS grow.
"This Week At EWS" by Joshua Monahan, Grade 4
Hi! My name is Josh and I’m nine years old. Eames Way School is the best school ever so this week was amazing. Tuesday, November 5th, we had the election. The election is the process for getting a new leader for the United States. The candidates were Kamala Harris. She's a democrat. Donald Trump is a republican and Donald Trump won the election. We had no school Tuesday because of the election.
For all P.E. teachers, I have talked to my peers and they are all in agreement that we should stay inside for the rest of winter because it's cold outside!
Thursday, November 7th, the 4th grade had an Enrichment on energy. I'm in 4th grade and the Enrichment was amazing. Thank you to the Eames Way School PTO for making the Enrichment happen for us. They were super funny and taught me a lot about power plants, vampire loads, renewable resources, and resources that make electricity. Also the students were involved. The presenters encouraged us to save energy. “DON’T WASTE ENERGY!” They said that a couple of times during the Enrichment. At the end of the whole Enrichment, they gave us an Eversource bag with gifts in it. This week was a good week and my favorite thing was the Enrichment!

Nurse Update
Annual Screenings:
Hearing and vision screenings will take place at the end of October and progress through the month of November for all grades. If it is recommended that your child needs to be referred for further vision or hearing assessment, you will be contacted by the school nurse. BMI screenings will be done for students in Grade 1 and Grade 4. In accordance with the Mass Department of Public Health (MDPH), schools are required by law to perform height, weight and body mass index (BMI) screenings for students in grade 1,4,7 & 10 and postural screenings in grades 5-9. Postural screenings will take place in the spring for Grade 5. If you would like to opt your student out of any of these screenings, you may email Mrs. White at awhite@mpsd.org or send in a signed note in your child’s backpack.
Healthy Habits:
Hydration: Please be sure your child brings a water bottle to school each day, preferably one that is easily refillable at our refill stations.

Change of clothing: If your child is prone to accidents/spills, please send in a change of clothing that can be kept in their backpack. Students are usually most comfortable in their own clothing vs. borrowed clothing.
Proper sleep: Make sure your child comes to school rested and ready to learn.
Illness Prevention:
Please be vigilant in monitoring your child for any symptoms of illness prior to sending them to school. If you have concerns about illness/symptoms in the morning, please call the Eames Way nurse, Alison White, to discuss them before sending your child into school. If you have questions regarding absences or attendance related to illnesses, Nurse White will be happy to discuss these with you. The Health Office phone number is 781-834-5090, ext. 44500. Please continue to keep Nurse White updated on any health-related absences by emailing to awhite@mpsd.org.
Guidelines for return to school after an illness:
For fever over 100 degrees, your child must be fever-free for 24 hours, without the use of Tylenol or Motrin, to return to school
For vomiting and/or diarrhea, your child must wait 24 hours after the last time they experienced vomiting or diarrhea before returning to school
If your child is diagnosed with a communicable disease such as strep throat or conjunctivitis and prescribed antibiotics, your child can not return to school until they have been on the antibiotics for at least 24 hours. A doctor's note should be brought to school via their backpack, emailed to awhite@mpsd.org, or faxed to 339-244-2475.
Any student returning after an injury that requires a doctor's visit or x-ray, must return with a doctor's note stating the diagnosis and activity restrictions, if any.
