Black History Month
As we wrap up Black History Month, we are reminded that any month is a time to honor the achievements, culture, and impact of black individuals who have shaped history across sports, music, science, literature, and beyond.
From iconic athletes to pioneering inventors, from influential leaders to unsung heroes, black history is a testament to resilience, excellence, and innovation. It serves as a powerful reminder that success is built on hard work, determination, and self-belief—qualities that thrive within our own school and community.

DARE Program Update: A New Focus for a New Generation
The DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program has evolved!
While it was once primarily focused on drug prevention, today's DARE curriculum takes a broader approach to student well-being. The updated program now emphasizes decision-making skills, critical thinking, and social-emotional learning, helping students navigate modern challenges beyond substance abuse.
Officer Shane Thramer, our dedicated DARE officer, works closely with 6th-grade students, guiding them through this important program. With this shift, DARE equips young people with the tools to handle peer pressure, build confidence, and make responsible choices in all aspects of life.
The goal remains the same—empowering students for a brighter, healthier future—just with a renewed, research-backed strategy.
Stay tuned for more updates on how DARE is making a difference in our school

The Dopamine Menu: How Art Serves to Represent Happiness
What if happiness was something you could order off a menu?
Well, in a way, it is!
In our 7th-grade art classes, we recently explored dopamine—the brain chemical that makes us feel good, motivated, and excited. Instead of just talking about it, we created our own Dopamine Menus, listing activities that bring us joy, energy, and a sense of accomplishment. As we discussed things like playing outside, listening to music, and spending time with friends, one activity kept coming up: making art.
Dopamine is like a little gold star for your brain. It rewards us when we do something enjoyable, encouraging us to do it again. Simple things like petting a dog or laughing with a friend can give us a dopamine boost, but one of the best ways to increase dopamine is through creativity. Art is the perfect way to fuel the brain with happiness. Finishing a drawing gives us a sense of accomplishment. The act of creating helps us focus and relax, like a mini vacation for the mind. Unlike social media, which gives short-lived dopamine bursts, making something with our hands provides a deeper, more lasting feeling of joy.
Student’s left class not only with colorful menus but with real tools to boost their mood—anytime, anywhere. Art isn’t just for artists; it’s brain fuel for everyone. So, if you’re looking for a healthy way to boost your mood, creativity might just be the best item on your Dopamine Menu!
Conflict and Bullying
Please talk to a trusted adult if you or a friend are struggling with conflict, bullying. We have attached some resources below as a guide. When we bring a community together, conflicts inevitably arise. If the conflict persists into bullying or harassment it is imperative that students and adults work together to make it stop. At FHS we take this seriously and will thoughtfully and carefully investigate each incidence, help resolve conflict, and address bullying. Everyone deserves to feel safe at school!

Technology: A Journey Through the Microsoft Suite"
Students in Mr. Anderson's Computer 8 class are learning to use Excel as part of a broader Microsoft Suite curriculum. In addition to Excel, the course includes lessons on Word, PowerPoint, and Access, helping students develop essential digital skills. These lessons are designed to support academic success by teaching students how to organize and present data, create professional documents, design engaging presentations, and explore basic database functions. These tools will help them in their schoolwork and prepare them for future technology use in their education.
