Coach Rutherford Says His Farewell to the Head Spot of the Football Team
On January 11, Coach Jerry Rutherford announced that he will be retiring from being the head varsity coach of the football team.
Jerry Rutherford has been apart of the football program for 35 years as the head coach. He first started coaching when he was only 22, yet he is Eastwood’s longest running coaches in history. Rutherford retired from teaching in 2013 but still hung onto his love of coaching.
Taking a look back at his very successful career, there are many outstanding stats to show for it. For instance, he went 227-140 in his entire career. With 10 league championships and 10 state playoff appearances, Rutherford went 168-75 in all time league play. His 227 wins create 70.5% of Eastwood's all time wins, and he has coached 62% of all football games in Eastwood history.
We, at the Eagle's Eye, would like to congratulate Mr. Rutherford on an incredible career, and we hope to see him at a Friday night game this fall! We also would like to invite everyone to see Coach Rutherford be inducted into the Eastwood Alumni Association’s Eagle Way Hall of Fame on February 25th at the Riverview Banquet Hall starting at 5:30.

The Hall of Fame is also to honor distinguished alumni and citizens of the community.
A requirement for submission of a nominee is to become a member of the Eastwood Alumni Association.
