Issue #10: October 11, 2024
Principal Corner
Happy Friday, Chapelfield families.
HUGE NEWS! CHAPELFIELD has earned the BRONZE status for our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) implementation! We are so excited to have this state recognition for all of our hard work!
Please keep sharing the news that we are doing our Read-A-Thon fundraiser for PTO. If every student raised $50, we would raise over $20,000. This money helps put on family events like the carnival, family night, and Breakfast with Buddies. In addition, PTO is able to support the classroom for paying for back to school supplies, provide grants for fresh classroom ideas, and support teachers! Please consider donating! Thank you for your support!
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Nikki Miller

Standard Response Protocol
As a district, we use the Standard Response Protocol to create a safe school environment. The different types of Standard Response Protocols we will use in a school are located below. We are required to practice many of these procedures throughout the year. We do this so students and staff know what to do in a real emergency. Please read over these documents. Please email me, Nikki Miller, if you have any questions at millern@gjps.org.

Grief Group Opportunity
Experiencing a death could be a major loss in a child’s life. Although grief is a normal reaction to loss, children grieve differently than adults and may struggle with unfamiliar feelings and reactions. OhioHealth offers a school-based program that provides a variety of services that focus on improving the emotional health and well-being of grieving children.
The program provides small group grief support services, approximately 6 to 8 sessions in duration. They would take place during the school day, free of cost. Licensed grief counselors utilize discussions, hands-on activities and expressive outlets to help grieving students:
- Understand typical responses to grief and loss
- Learn healthy ways to express, navigate, and cope with their feelings and reactions
- Share memories and honor the people in their lives who have died
Please fill out the form below to participate by Wednesday, October 16th.

Physical Education update from Mrs. Scheibeck-TEAMWORK
Hello CES Families,
We have continued to focus on our teamwork and communication skills through physical activity. We played a great game that gave our students a chance to communicate different ideas and strategies. This game also presented many teachable moments in which the students given the opportunity learn to better resolve conflict. The game is called Crossover and the goal is simply to work together to get all members of your team from one side of the gym to the other without being tagged. We also talked about the difference between cheering with your team after a victory, and cheering “AT” the other team by taunting and bragging after a victory.
Many of our classes took big steps this week!
Thank you and have a fantastic weekend!!

Legally Required Prevention Education Notification
Dear GJPS Families,
Beginning last school year, districts in Ohio have been navigating new legislation related to
health and safety lessons that schools are required to include as a part of the curriculum. House
Bill 123 and Senate Bill 288, as outlined in the chart below, provide instruction to students in
grades K-12 on these topics.
We have developed our plan for delivery and have begun communicating with parents in
preparation for instruction. There are many details related to both House Bill 123 and Senate Bill
288 and we wanted to provide clarifying information on both components of our curriculum.
Instruction required annually for students in grades K-6:
Child Sexual Abuse, Dating Violence and Sexual Violence Prevention instruction is required annually for students in grades K-6.
Instructional Materials used:
Second Step Crime Protection Unit
Both HB123 and SB288 require districts to provide families the opportunity to examine
instructional materials and/or excuse their student(s) from taking part in the instruction.
For your convenience and due to a low response rate across the district, we have
created this HB123 & SB288 Parent Opt-Out Form for families to use ONLY IF YOU
WISH TO OPT OUT.
If you would like to read more about these pieces of legislation, you can access information
using the links below.
