This week...
What a fantastic week we've had at St Joseph's!
Some of our Mini Vinnies celebrated Mass at the Cathedral with Bishop Marcus; we had forest school sessions across KS2 (look below and on our Twitter account for more photos!); the Diocese of Leeds provided singing sessions with all year groups; our sports coaches led sessions with three classes; and we welcomed our Reception children in a beautiful Welcome Liturgy this morning.
All of this is in addition to the exciting learning we have taking place across school each day!
Attendance has been great again this week - well done, everyone! The evidence shows that attendance has a huge impact on children's outcomes (in every sense) so we are very grateful for your support in getting the children into school!
Have a read below about all the exciting things our Friends of St Joseph's are planning for us. And make sure you try to come along to the AGM!
Have a lovely weekend.
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Virtue, mission and verse of the week
Our current virtue: Love of learning!
Our Bible passage of the week: 2 Kings 23:2 - King Josiah reads the law of God to the people
Our mission this week: Read (or listen to) Bible stories we haven't heard before. Please try to find time to share a Bible story with your children this week. Even better, send us info/photos so we can share these on our social media and inspire other families to read more Bible stories together too!
Reception Welcome Liturgy
This morning, we officially welcomed our new Reception children into our school, with a lovely ceremony, shared by family and friends. The children were blessed by Father Sean, given a beautiful candle, and sang Great Big God with their buddies!
Welcome to our St Joseph's family, Team Reception!
Mini Vinnie's Mass
On Wednesday, Miss Savelli and Mrs Galley took some of our Mini Vinnies to Leeds Cathedral to celebrate Mass with Bishop Marcus. It was a special event, and marked the 10th anniversary of Mini Vinnies in the Diocese of Leeds! Our Mini Vinnies made us very proud as they represented our school so beautifully.
Forest School
On Wednesday, St Patrick’s and St Therese had amazing forest school sessions. Each class had half a day, working as a team! They developed their skills of resilience through whittling, den building, fire starting and more! We can’t wait for the next session in a couple of weeks!
Bookshare Breakfasts!
We are delighted to announce that we are shortly going to launch Bookshare Breakfasts on a Friday morning, before school!
This will be a lovely time, when you are invited to come in and share a book with your child, with members of our staff, whilst also enjoying a slice of toast and juice! Siblings welcome.
We can't wait to begin these, so please watch this space for further details... !
Asda Cashpots
As you will have seen in our email to you, don't forget to add St Joseph's to your Asda cashpot. It's a great, easy way to raise money for our school!
If you know anyone starting school in Sept 2025, please share our poster below:
Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 97.3%
We are pleased to report that our attendance this week is ABOVE National Average.
Thank you so much for your support with this - it has such a positive impact on our children!
This week, we have been learning...
St Nicholas Class (Nursery)
As part of our Worship in St Nicholas class we have been learning about God's Wonderful World. We talked about all the wonderful things God created and the children finger painted pictures of them.
St Francis Class (Preschool / Reception)
St Francis have been very busy this week, looking at the traditional tale, The Litte Red Hen. We learned how to bake bread with Miss Gill, and looked carefully at the ears of wheat and talked about how it grows. In our story-writing we have been thinking of lots of adventures for the little red hen and having a go at using our new phonics sounds to write about them! We have also challenged ourselves in maths to match pairs, identify sets and find the odd-one-out in a mixed up set!
St Bernadette Class (Year 1/2)
As part of our work on place value. This week went outside to draw our own number lines. We used a blank number like to estimate where the numbers would go. We started by finding the mid-point and then added different numbers on.
St Patrick Class (Year 3/4)
In RE, we have been learning about the Bible and how it is a book about God's relationship with his people. We thought about how it is a way that God speaks to us today. We made phones (that actually swipe!) and wrote a text conversation between us and God, with us choosing a Bible verse as God's reply.
St Therese Class (Year 5/6)
In St Therese Class, we are now on the next stage of writing our information text about wolves. We've worked very hard on this so far and are beginning to produce some super texts. To help us remember that grey wolves that live in woodlands can be called timber wolves, we danced to the song Timber!
