Classroom Updates
Kindergarten
Kindergarten is so excited to bring in November! Students will be completing their Unit 3 of Wonders and moving onto the next big idea of Unit 4, "What do you know about the people and places in your neighborhood". Students will explicitly learn letters Cc, Oo, Dd and sight words "you", "do", and "go". In math, students will continue their exposure on shapes and distinguish between flat and solid shapes by learning the attributes of solid shapes. In writing, students will continue to learn about key details and dictating simple words and creating sentences. For science, we have had great success in planting radish seeds and learning more about different parts of plants and what they need to grow! Finally, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving and giving thanks and gratitude to families in our community with the food drive and special activities!
1st Grade
In reading, we will be in our second unit of Wonders, which focuses on our community. Our new phonics skills will focus on end blends, y as a vowel and suffix -ing. We will continue working on sight words and building reading fluency. In math, we will be working on addition and subtraction relationships. In science, we will continue to learn about and discuss how plants and animals survive. In social studies we will be comparing life in the past to present day. We will be writing about all the ways we are thankful! Please be sure to spend a few minutes each night reading with your child!
2nd Grade
Hello Second Grade Families!
Second grade has begun unit 2 in our reading curriculum. We will be focusing on main idea, problem and solution, as well as beginning, middle, and end. In writing we will be doing expository writing about animals. In math we will finish looking at place value and the different ways to model numbers. We will then begin Module 2 of adding and subtracting within 200. During science students will be exploring the properties of materials. In social studies we will begin to look at civics and how decisions are made. Please continue to read with your child at home as well as practice math facts! Make sure to check the Google Site for weekly updates!3rd Grade
Happy third week of the second quarter. In math we have been working on rounding, addition and subtraction but we will be starting to work on multiplication and division again. Keep working on those multiplication facts. In reading we will be working on identifying the theme in a story, and main idea and details. In grammar, we will also be learning how to combine sentences, possessive nouns, and action verbs. The genres we will be studying are poetry, historical fiction, and expository (information text). In Social Studies we will be finishing out our economics unit and then starting a research project on Ellis Island. In Science we will be starting to learn about animal traits and inheritance.
4th Grade
Quarter 2 is off to a wonderful start! We enjoyed being able to see your students share their progress and goals with you during our student showcase of learning last month. We look forward to watching them continue to grow. This month, we will be diving into some new content! This includes discussing realistic fiction and narrative non-fiction in ELA, learning about factors and multiples in math, investigating animal senses in science, and continuing to learn about our beautiful state of Colorado in social studies. In addition to these academics, we will also be discussing the importance of social awareness. Please remember to check our weekly newsletters sent via Remind for upcoming dates, spelling words, and other important information.
5th Grade
Hello Fifth Grade Families!
November is an exciting month for our fifth graders! We will be wrapping up Module 2 in math, which focuses on the addition and subtraction of fractions, and transitioning into Module 3, where we’ll dive into multiplication and division with fractions. In ELA, we’ll continue refining our grammar skills while placing a strong emphasis on understanding theme and main idea.
In science, we are exploring the modeling of matter. This unit will allow us to learn how to separate a food-coloring mixture, investigate a new model of chromatography, and discover Nanovision models of chromatography.
We’re also making progress in our AmeriTowne program, where students will learn about banking, checking accounts, debit cards, the workings of government, law development, voting, and primary elections. Additionally, we will start creating campaign posters as part of this engaging experience.
November promises to be filled with learning, and we truly appreciate the continued support from our families!
